Bottle share from Toby. Big, in your face alcohol, with tons of sweet candy notes, toffee, caramel, etc. Lots of warmth followed by burn, barrel aging notes present throughout.

I think this bottle is from 2014. It's held up extremely well for being approximately 5 years old.

There's some dark fruit and sherry (slight oxidation?) on the nose, with boozy caramel, rum, vanilla, bourbon, spicy oak, toffee, and chocolate as well.

I'm not entirely sure what a brownywine is, but this feels like somewhat of a chocolatey and oaky barleywine. It's aged magnificently, with only a hint of supportive oxidation here, just slightly wine-like fruitiness, and no cardboard. There's rum and bourbon, but I don't get any outright brandy, other than that light fruitiness mentioned above. There's lots of oak, spiced and warming, with some vanilla from the wood. There's caramel, toffee, and a nice dry chocolate note on the back end.

This is medium bodied, and not boozy at all for the ABV - that's probably somewhat the age working its magic. It's creamy and fairly rich.

I'm really glad that I got a chance to try this one. It's aged well, and I can't help but wonder how great it was fresh.

22 oz bottle poured into a teku glass

Pours dark amber-brown with a one inch fluffy beige head. Good head retention.

Nose: There is a lot going on here. Bourbon, rum, caramel, vanilla, dark fruit. Subtle chocolate undertones.

Taste: Raisin and brandy up front followed by caramel, oak, and rum. Mocha on the finish, slight bitterness. There are a ton of layers in this beer but they all come together exceptionally well.

Full-bodied, mild carbonation cuts through keeping it from getting too heavy.

On tap at BC's Pizza & Beer

A: Pours rich brown with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and

S: Caramel, brown sugar, toffee, a little spice, plenty of influence from the spirit barrels, definitely a touch of alcohol.

T: Big sweet brown sugar, bourbon, rum, little spice, milk chocolate, faint fruity notes, oak, and vanilla.

M: Full body, moderate carbonation, sticky sweet but smooth, just a little warmth.

O: Really happy to get a chance to try this. A bit sweet, but definitely different and cool.

Got this one from ScottO a while back. Cheers! FW calls this one a brownywine.

Collaboration with the oldest homebrew club in LA for their 40th anniversary. Aged in rum, brandy and bourbon barrels.

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear light brown and yields a two finger, medium looking, light brown head with decent retention. Head fades quickly to a full wisp. Bistre brown body with no real carbonation evident. Slight wisp remains leaving touches of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Lots of rum, brown sugar, caramel and toffee on the nose. Notes of oak and vanilla too. Spicy rum is the more prevalent barrel. Bold and enticing.

TASTE: Brown sugar and spicy rum flavors up front. Caramel sweetness as well. Lots of oak, rum and brown sugar at the swallow with lots of rum, oak, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, milk chocolate and spicy alcohol. Lots of sweetness and boozy barrel flavor.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. A little prickly on the palate, goes down fine and finishes rather sticky on the palate. Plenty of heat lingers.

OVERALL: This is great! Really nice sweet malt and barrel flavors with lots of alcohol and spirit character. The different barrels certainly add interesting layers to this one and all the sweet malt character definitely works really well along side. A really tasty treat and well worth checking out if you can. Thanks again ScottO. Highly recommended.

Appearance - The beer was a murky brown color with noted variations.

Smell - The beer has a crisp boozy nose. The characteristics of the barrels melt together.

Taste - Initially, I detect big caramel. Candy Sugar and juniper berries round out the profile. The barrel seems to melt together. The brandy seems to be the most prominent barrel. Concord grapes from the brandy create the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - The creaminess of the mouthfeel smooths what could be a hot beer.

Overall - This is another winner from Firestone Walker.
