12oz Bottle

Yet another great beer received in recent trading with errantnight, thanks again Derek! Union Jack IPA pours a glowing orange with a slight haziness. Very few streams of carbonation rise to the surface throughout the glass. The cotton white head grew to two fingers on a standard pour and as it slowly fell to a finger left some great sticky lacing behind. The drink lines after each sip were chunky as well.

As soon as I popped the top the intense hoppiness greeted me. When I stick my nose in the glass it's no different. A dense resinous hoppiness combines with bitter grapefruit and mild orange to produce a hoptastic smelling IPA. The malt that does manage to barely squeak through is cake like and has a slight candy sweetness to it. This IPA makes my mouth water. Each swirl intensifies the hoppy goodness.

The flavor lives up to the aroma and may even be a little juicier. The sappy hoppiness still takes the lead but the citric qualities are more pronounced than the aroma suggested. Bitter grapefruit comes along mid-palate and takes over before a squeeze of orange says hello. There's even a nice apricot zing on the swallow that I really enjoy. What little bit of the malt backbone I can taste (and it isn't much) has that candy like sweetness.

The mouthfeel is all incredibly smooth with a medium body. The carbonation is on the lower side of the spectrum and creates just enough frothiness for that incredible body. The feel of this beer is right where it should be. The bitterness grows as I drink.

I've gone through this glass far too fast and I'm sure the next glass would be the same way. This is an incredibly flavorful, easy drinking IPA. The flavor and hop bouquet keep my diving in for more.

Union Jack is another great IPA from the West Coast and another quality brew from Firestone Walker. I wish this was available in my area because it would be a mainstay in my fridge. Thanks again for the taste Derek; I'm sure I'll be asking for more soon.

A - Pours nice copper with orangish hue. Nice 1.5 fingers of white head. Low carbonation coming up.

S - Great hop blast with huge grapefruit notes. Smells like juice almost. Sweet/tangy malt at the end.

T - Nice wave of flavor over the palate, great hop bite at the end. Fruity characteristics in there, grapefruit again in the taste. Has a nice bitter bite at the end.

M - Light to medium bodied. Nice carbonation level, finishes clean.

O - Decent IPA here, nothing over the top. Good and drinkable for sure.

A. Pours a beautiful golden bronze color. Less than a finger worth of head from a bottle dated 7/29. Nice bubble retention while sipping, like tiger stripes.

S. Grapefruit - citrus focused. Alcohol is present to the nose, but nicely blended with other aromas of banana peel, pine cones and citrus zest. Quite yummy.

T. True to the nose, tons of grapefruit and citrus on the palate. Pine needles and grass also come to the tip of the tongue, with a nice clean finish.

M. Crisp and clean. Little carbonation on the taste buds.

O. Great W. Coast IPA. A go to, any time of week type of brew. Classic.

(From Notes) This would be a great every day beer/lawnmowing beer for those with great taste. For the price it's amazing.

A - 4.25 - two fingers off white head, already leaving lacing on the glass as it disappears even before I take the first sip, nice amber gold colored beer, crystal clear

S - 4.25 - nice caramel/bready malt balanced with orangey hops, definitely gives a grapefruit flavor from the hops

T - 4.25 - Nice balance of sweet caramel malt and bread flavors, citrus grapefruit hop flavor balances it. Hop flavors are more forward in the taste than in the smell (good thing).

M - 4.25 - Medium to light mouthfeel with good carbonation, strong bitterness on the aftertaste. Appropriate for an IPA. Alcohol completely hidden.

O - 4.25 - Overall this is a really good beer, and would be a great everyday beer for lawn work or watching the game. It's perfect for the price, I'd compare it to Stone IPA. Obviously it's not going to be a Ruination or Pliny, but for a standard American IPA it's amazing.

Pours hazy yellow color with finger width foamy head. Head retention and lacing is moderate. Citrus, piney hoppy aroma. Aroma is great! Nice malty, slight citrus taste up front quickly followed by piney hops. The transition is decent but you can still taste where one begins and one ends. The taste is excellent, regardless. Bitter aftertaste but just a tad soapy and dry..

12 oz. bottle

a - Hazy gold appearance with a solid white laced head, A ice level of carbonation,

s - A perfect citrus, grapefruit hop smell in my book! Very hoppy without the cat pea smell some beers tend to get.

t - Nice hop bite but some balance as well. The hops are certainly not overwhelming. Definitely a very balanced IPA.

m - Solid mouthfeel with a pleasant aftertaste.

o - A solid IPA. Definitely a staple in our household. Higly recommended.
