a nice clean amber pour with 1/2" of cream colored head, nice retention, patchy lacing. smells of fresh hops, pine, grapefruit, caramel, more pine! very sweet smell combined with hops is making me thirsty!
a delicious grapefruit taste up front, sweet yet very bitter, earthy hop notes, a slight hint of garlic (warrior hops?).. this bottle is a month old or so, i have a feeling it got a lot sweeter than is intended but i like it this way. a nice malty backbone makes this beer very drinkable.
medium body, low carbonation, slight creamy feel on the lips.
overall this is a nice beer. my first time drinking a firestone walker beer, and i feel like i've made a good choice. i don't feel it justifies the price tag on it ($2.50 a bottle is a bit steep when everything else i eyed up was $1 cheaper), but i'm glad i picked it up to at least try it. i've had better ipa's, but this one IS tasty, so i'm not gonna give it a low rating - i'd like to check out some of their offerings.. been sitting on a bottle of sucaba and parabola.. i'll have to drink them soon.

Poured from a stubby 12-ounce bottle into a Relic Brewing Co. imperial pint glass.

A: Poured a slightly hazy, golden amber color with a tinge of orange. Excellent clarity otherwise with lazy carbonation that builds up to a three-finger head of frothy, dense, white foam that retains very well and leaves nice sheets of lacing.

S: Loads of fruity esters mixed around with floral and citrusy hops. Grapefruit and bitter orange rinds dominate the fruity, inviting nose.

T: Very juicy, fresh, citrusy malts hit up front with some toasted biscuit qualities before a hoppy, fruity dam bursts, unleashing hop resins over the palate. There is a very heavy hand of hops here; bordering DIPA territory. Excellent grapefruit and citrus flavors wash over in full bitterness before finishing dry and slightly sweet with a mild alcohol burn.

M: Smooth, sweet and relatively balanced medium mouthfeel, this brew finishes a bit creamy through the sharp pull of bitterness and puckering citrus flavors.

O: This is a very tasty American IPA and bordering on a DIPA with it's pretty well-masked 7.5% ABV and superbly jacked up IBUs. A full showcase of Northwestern hop varietals and California-mentality, hop-forward brewing makes Union Jack IPA a new contender for favorite, west-coast American IPA. Excellent!

Copper-gold in color with a fine lacing left on the glass wall. Spicey, piney hop smell. Great mouthfeel - with finer carbonation. One of the best tasting single IPAs on the market - the hop flavor is almost sweet - good balance with a candied or caramel malt.

golden honey-orange, good clarity, on the road to transparent. Super-active carbonation, a sticky lace ring. Medium stringy lacing.

fruity hops- peach meat, slight pine, beeswax. Not super pungent.

The taste is wonderful, a tangy citrus bite is leveled out by a nice rich sweet malt body, carrying the mango, peach, and pineapple, which is then dried out by a great alpha bill, and finally a residual bitterness that is big but welcome, earthy but one-dimensional and clean. I love the way that the beer tours the drinker through some essential features of American IPAs- the way that sweetnesss can get kicked aside by hop bitterness, the wonders of the bitter linger, the citrusy and piney qualities. I wish that I could get this all the time in Michigan.

A: Slightly cloudy, honey colored beer. Maybe a finger's width of white head that has a long retention and a lot of lacing.

S: Lots of grapefruit notes, elderflower. The cirtusy, floral hops are the dominant aroma on this beer, but there's also a nice malt backbone to hold them up.

T: Lots of malts, at the front followed by the bitter hops. They aren't as floral as I expected from the smell, but they begin as slightly floral and tasting of coriander, followed by a very piney taste.

M: Medium body and a fair amount of carbonation, along with a slightly oily mouthfeel.

O: Maybe not the best version of this beer, because it was bottle over 3 months ago, but it's pretty solid. I may redo the review once I taste a fresh one, but for now it's a solid beer, but not one that I'd seek out.

I'm just copying from notes when I see fit from now on - who's reading this?

2-in head, white, dense-foamy - clean filtered yellow gold liquid (the color is ideal) - crystal-clarity - some lace

pungent hops - equal parts: piney, pineapple, citrus/tropical - malt? not much - a honey-ish background - vibrant overall, yet not terribly unique (aside from the banging pineapple fumes) - copious late dry-hopping, i'm guessing

more of a sweet, spicy flavor - malty-sweet, uh-huh - long-lasting pineapple nectar and spice (hops) - a spicy snap - medium-level earthy "hop" flavor and alcohol presence - pineapple diminishes as it settles - nearly a perfect split or hybrid of an English and American IPA, as far as my ideals go - more balance and malt as it warms

the alcohol warmth does linger long time, mellow solvent heat - has almost a whipped-frothy feel to it... - extremely soft up front with that warm alc rush trailing close - balanced sensations, lighter-bodied

kind of a straight-forward, but really tasty and enjoyable IPA - by American standards, it could almost be considered boring, especially to "hop-heads" - it's well-constructed despite perhaps leaning a little too toward the fruity hop character (which, honestly, probably has a nudge from esters, no?) - I want to suggest that a different bittering hop would improve this, but I'd have to see the recipe...
