On Tap at Dave and Busters San Diego.

I've had it before. Prob 12-15 times. Always enjoyed.

Good stuff...all time good. Top 5 IPA.

T Tap, pint

A disguised, clear, bit light, but character

S all the hops, kinda dirty and clean, but again, character, it's right.

T Great

M has a great grit spice to it

O grows on ya good. First time looking up reviews on it, but been around the block with this one and it's an old sparring bud. Will stand test of time. An easy recommend.

The Beers of California

#6

Freshness Date: None

A: A half inch of white foam tops off this hazy golden ale. The head slowly subsides coating the glass as it disappears.

S: Juicy grapefruit and pine trees with freshly baked sweet rolls. A wonderful nose which really activates the palate.

T: The hops leave a trail of clean, crisp, spicy bitterness throughout. Grapefruit and pine predominate but one can also detect elements of flowers, grass, and tropical fruit. The malt is of freshly baked sweet bread and honey, although they are a subdued companion to the hops.

M: Surprisingly creamy with the classic IPA linger and moderate prickling carbonation.

O: Another great California IPA. A must have for all the hopheads out there. More difficult to find than Racer or Stone but just as good and worth every penny.

A - Pours with one finger of white foam on top of a Ightly hazy golden body. The head settles fairly quickly and leaves moderate lace.

S - A nice, hoppy aroma of pine and grapefruit with some toffee and thick malt in the background.

T - Bready malt up front with some pine and grapefruit. More pungent hops in the middle and a bit of sweaty onion character in the middle. Finishes with fairly strong bitterness, thick malt and more pungent pine and citrus hops.

M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - A very well made ipa. Great hop character and a thicker than aveage malt character that, despite it's intensity, doesn't get in the way of the hops.

A: thin head on a slightly hazy golden with slight amber hue body.

S: classic orange peel and grapefruit hop aroma. very nice degree of sweetness.

T: nice degree of malt presence. the hop variety is excellent. very complex and variable as its consumed. hop notes include floral, herbal, grapefruit, melon and pineapple. very nice.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: this is a very nice beer. The hop character is excellent for a standard IPA. I could drink this all the time.

Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Label states it was bottled on "4/26/12." Yikes. And this was broken from a six pack as well. Let's see what 4 months do to a style which shouldn't preferably be aged...

Appearance is of clear amber, although definitely on the side that gives the appearance of honey or syrup. Not much of a head, but a nice white circle fights to remain at the top the whole time. Carbonation fluctuates moderately up the glass. Looks more like a pale ale than an IPA, but not bad all the same.

On the other hand, this definitely does not smell like a pale ale! There are vivid floral and citrus notes all around, yet no sweetness, nor any alcohol for that matter. Still, it's only moderately spiced, and it leans towards a zesty, refreshing smell in the process. Very nice!

The initial flavor, to my surprise, is quite malty. However, it immediately seeps through and is replaced by honey, caramel, and a little bit of soapiness. There's a brief alcohol burn towards the finish, as well as a modest hop attack on the senses. It's really syrupy, often resembling a DIPA, which I enjoy. However, it's pretty balanced overall, and the beer is really smooth and full-bodied. It's really easy to drink, and I am personally enjoying the citrus flavors that become more notable as it warms up.

A decent IPA that definitely takes risks here and there, but works out very well in the end. It's very good for a casual IPA enthusiast, and pairs very well with many types of food. I would probably stick with the DIPAs which provide the extra "oomph" I always desire in the hops department, but it really is an excellent beer that is surprisingly and fantastically balanced. Recommended!

a nice clean amber pour with 1/2" of cream colored head, nice retention, patchy lacing. smells of fresh hops, pine, grapefruit, caramel, more pine! very sweet smell combined with hops is making me thirsty!
a delicious grapefruit taste up front, sweet yet very bitter, earthy hop notes, a slight hint of garlic (warrior hops?).. this bottle is a month old or so, i have a feeling it got a lot sweeter than is intended but i like it this way. a nice malty backbone makes this beer very drinkable.
medium body, low carbonation, slight creamy feel on the lips.
overall this is a nice beer. my first time drinking a firestone walker beer, and i feel like i've made a good choice. i don't feel it justifies the price tag on it ($2.50 a bottle is a bit steep when everything else i eyed up was $1 cheaper), but i'm glad i picked it up to at least try it. i've had better ipa's, but this one IS tasty, so i'm not gonna give it a low rating - i'd like to check out some of their offerings.. been sitting on a bottle of sucaba and parabola.. i'll have to drink them soon.
