A - Clear golden ale with a frothy white head that sticks around. Some lace. Not a lot of carbonation coming off the glass.

S - Surprisingly, the first thing I smell is the yeast character. There is some fruitiness, I'm sure it's an english strain. Next come the hops, It's not a huge hop aroma, but it blends really well with the malt and the yeast character. This beer reminds me of an english IPA in the sense that the hop aroma is subdued and the yeast character is showing through. The american hops give it a nice citrus aroma and make it very interesting.

T - Nice bitterness to start things off. A good pronounced maltiness rounds out the bitterness and makes it very drinkable. I love the lasting bitterness, it keeps me coming back for more. This is a very refreshing beer.

M - There is some body on this beer which works well with the lower carbonation levels. The finish is a very long lasting bitterness which I really like.

O - This is a great IPA, up there with the best of them. I really like how bold the bitterness is. I'd enjoy a hoppier aroma, but maybe it wasn't the freshest bottle.

12 oz bottle (4-18-12)

A- Pours a translucent copper with one finger white head. Nice lacing.

S- Smell is big citrus with some bready malt.

T- Big citrus grapefruit nicely balanced with a malt backbone.

M- Nice medium mouthfeel with a lingering bitterness on the tongue.

O- A very solid IPA that verges onto the DIPA spectrum. Found in many supermarkets in the NW, this is a solid go to.

12 oz. poured into a Sierra Nevada pint on June 15th, 2012.

A - 100% clear golden coloring with a very thin white head. Fair retention and awesome lacing.

S - PineSol, exceedingly clean malt grains, and a touch of citrus-forward hops.

T - Effervescent summer fruit at the front. Mid-palate brings on a nice hop bitterness followed by straight grapefruit pulp. A bit of pine at rear-palate as well as roasted, or lightly burnt, almonds in the aftertaste.

M - Medium body, a bit smooth, fine carbonation, semi-dry finish. I can completely tell this is the base for Double Jack based on feel alone.

D - If you're familiar with FW, it's exactly what you'd expect from a year-round IPA for them. Fortunately, this means decent.

Looks like this has high marks. Came in a pre-mixed sixer from Ryan & Casey in Greenfield, MA.

Pours a dark gold with a two-finger head into my glass. Lacing as expected.

Grassy hops with a citrus backbone. I can't quite put my nose down on it.

Like biting into half of a grapefruit. But, it doesn't wham the tongue. This allows one to absorb the flavor of the malt as well.

Lingering bitterness that leans towards grapefruit.

I can honestly say that I think this lives up to the high marks bestowed by the bros.

This is hands-down my favorite IPA and I like IPA's. There is a superb balance here. There's a fog of sweetness that sits on your tongue after the lovely hop bitterness diminishes away.

The only problem with this beer is that if it's available I'm going to get it even places that have over 400 beers available... if they have this one then those other 399 beers will not be considered as options.

Aroma is of citrus hops, goes down smoothly, mouthfeel is a tad thick, but not overly so.

Overall this is one perfect IPA in my opinion. If you've not tried it you are missing out.

Firestone Union Jack IPA, 22 oz bomber: This beer is relatively clear, a deep golden color and topped with a decent head. Good aroma of hop notes. A rich malt comes through in the flavor, mixed with hops that build into a big aftertaste. The Union Jack is a solid IPA and on par with my favorites. A must try if you are into high-end IPAs.
