A: Hazy copper gold under a 2” sudsy, persistent, lacy off white foam cap.
S: Melon, citrus and biscuit
T: Starts melon and citrus riding on biscuit to graham cracker and concluding with a well balanced citrus zest bitter finish. The bitterness is not harsh.
M: Creamy, medium body and very fine, soft carbonation.
O: A very drinkable, go to American IPA.

Nice IPA. Doesn't really smack you like some other IPAs with similar ABV's. Had on tap in 1/2 liter mug. Good colour, nice white head leaving lace as it works down glass.Recommend - especially for those who dislike sharp hoppy aftertaste from IPAs.

Serving: 12 oz can (stamped "02-27-15 14:22") poured into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pale, clear copper gold, crowned by a solid, frothy head of white foam. Great white lace lines the glass.

Smell: Resinous pine, herbs (mint) and citrus, as well some some sweeter notes of tropical fruit and malt.

Taste: Crisp, herbal bitterness and citrus (grapefruit) continue from the nose. Tropic fruit is present but indistinct. Malt body provides some balancing sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Medium, smooth body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Everything one expects from a West Coast IPA.

I had this beer a long time ago and didn't like it. However, I was unsure of whether this was due to the actual flavor or the fact that I had it really old. Here goes:

A: Great. Copper-colored with a huge head and great lacing. Also plenty of carbonation.

S: Great - a pine forest mixed with some grapefruit. Very sweet caramel malt as well. Can't wait to try it.

T: Follows the nose, which is great. Citrus, pine and biting grapefruit interspersed with sweet caramel malt. Fantastic - reminds me of Sculpin.

F: Perfect. Well-carbonated and rich.

O: Great beer. Much better than I remember it. Will remember to try Firestone Walker beers before the hop-flavor dissipates.

My good buddy Jon Passow, who as of a few months ago became the Manager of Barrel Room Operations at Anderson Valley sent me this in a package from northern, CA recently. Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a very clear, medium golden color with a nice white head that is about 1/2 of an inch thick when first poured that settles to a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a nice layer of surface foam film. Good lacing too. Has a biscuit malt aroma along with some hints of citrus, mango, and piney hops. Has a nice biscuit caramel malt presence upfront that gives way to grapefruit, a hint of mango, and piney pungent hop bitterness. Not overly bitter though, has a good balance of the different flavors. The hops do dominate the flavor profile to a degree. The bitterness does linger quite nicely though after each sip and the aftertaste is certainly on the dry side. Has a crisp, yet also pretty smooth and frothy, medium to full bodied mouth feel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in the way well crafted beer ought to be! Nothing special here, just a solid, well crafted IPA. I am glad I got the chance to try this and hope I get the chance to try more offerings from this brewery.

I can't find anything lacking in this beer. Clear, warm honey color with very nice foam, lovely café latte color -- yum. Great nose -- biscuit with some mango -- which leads into a clean, balanced, full taste with some serious but not in your face hops, a bit of citrus. Carbonation just right -- light with a little velvet at the end. Totally balanced, nicely layered. What it's not to love?!

Poured into a wine glass. Slightly hazy bright amber-orange color with a generous white head. Floral aromas with pine, citrus and malt mixed in. Beautiful taste with flowing citrus, pine and floral bitterness with a hint of dankness. Balanced malt backbone. Clean dry finish.

Not a bad beer, but not great.

Pours nicely, pretty head, fine, persistent. Transparent golden brown color.

Smells not too good, really. A little stale perhaps.

Taste is quite bitter. A manly-man's beer. Some apricots. Nothing great going on, but much better than the smell.

Good mouthfeel. Just the right level of carbonation, though some might prefer more.

Long, bitter, well integrated finish, good integrity.

pours a darker orange with a thick white head.

smells like fruit and hop, i love it! the aroma is heavy and just perfect.

this beer tastes like fruit hop glory. its so damn tasty i just love it!! my beer was brewed on July 28 and ended up in NJ. For a beer that is almost 2 months old it's still perfect!! i could not imagine drinking this fresh, as in within a week old or at the brewery itself! one day Firestone Walker, one day.

just too smooth, like James Dean at an old home.

this beer could take the panties off a steel trap, probably my favorite single IPA. so fantastic and well rounded, this is my 2nd 6 pack of this beer but my first time reviewing it in characters. i enjoyed Double Jack but this is so much better! I love dIPAs but this is better than DJack. such an easy and smooth beer.

(Draft revisited, BJ's, Valencia, CA 2/25/15) Have slowly warmed up to this beer, as it isn't the classic IPA style that I normally enjoy. For me it is a bit malt biased but still a very good beer.

There wasn't anything particularly remarkable about this beer. Maybe because it was my first Firestone Walker I let my expectations get out of hand. A great IPA but it lives in a crowded field. Had on draft and I suspect a fresh bottle might have been a little more lively in aroma and mouthfeel.

Update: had fresh bottles while on vacation, aroma was more pungent of ripe citrus and light pine. Malty but balanced well, alcohol notes were absent. Head formed easily and lasted pretty well for an IPA. Mouthfeel is wonderful, light enough to make it easy drinking but still substantial enough to carry the malt. Pretty delicious all around.

From 12oz bottle into Sprecher nonic. Bottled on date: 11/4/13 (60 days old). Appearance is orange-amber with one-finger ivory head that lasts a while before settling to a ring and islands. Lacing in dots and rings all the way down. Aroma is grapefruit and orange citrus, pine, and resin hoppiness plus some alcohol and a minisucle touch of bread. Taste is citrus rind bitter up front, a touch of sweet tropical fruit juice and bread comes through briefly, then the bitterness returns on the swallow but fades abruptly. Medium bodied, slightly creamy, soft carbonation adds to that texture, abrupt bitter finish.

Another fine beer by Firestone Walker! I really like this IPA. It is very hoppy up front and has a lot of spicy character that you would expect. The smell is of piney, floral, and citrus hops. It has a very nice kick at 7.5% but it blends in in well for a nice taste. I would rate this as one of the better IPA's.

One of the few IPAs that comes close to O'dells...just barely misses it. In the Bottle, I sometimes am tempted to put it at the same level as O'dells, because it has such a Brilliant Citrus/pine balance but it's still just SLIGHTLY too sweet for my normal preference unless I'm in the mood for a sweeter IPA. On tap, it very frequently suffers from being even sweeter and thus too sweet for a hopheads preference who will often go with Stone or O'dell because of it. The other downside is that its priced at least 1 or 2 dollars more than the average IPA. It deserves it, but still...

Been wanting to try this brewery for awhile now, finally got my hands on a sixer of this.
Look: nice sunrise with tons of head and good lacing all the way down
Smell: sweet citrus, floral
Taste: extremely balanced, alcohol is well hidden, really wouldent change anything
Mouthfeel: slight carbonation, goes down smooth
Overall: Very delicious and drinkable, could have with plenty of meals, feels like a pregame brew. Would recommend you try. Looking forward for more brews from Firestone Walker.

Pours a very clear Amber and light copper, moderate head and lace. Fruity sweet aroma; apples, mango and other tropical fruit. This is followed by a bready, biscuity malt aroma. All throughout, there is a whiff of alcohol in the background. The taste represents a great balance of sweet and bitter. Citrus hops flavor, grapefruit, and with a big caramel or honey malt backbone. Sweet malt finish and an aftertaste that's resiny and hoppy. Smooth, full mouthfeel, soft carbonation that brings out the flavors, and easily drinkable. A world class IPA!

A-Pours a nice clear copper color with a white foamy head, about 2 fingers width, and leaves some nice lacing
S-tropical fruit, lingering pine and resin, hints of orange citrus and malt
T-Dominated by the resiny piney hops, very little of the fruit aroma carries through in the flavor. There is some malt sweetness in the background, but the finish quickly becomes lingering bitterness and a crisp biscuit flavor
M-medium bodied with average carbonation
0-A very tasty IPA

Nothing fancy here; just a damn solid IPA. If you don't like fruit or pine-heavy flavor in an IPA this is definitely one to try. Pours a dark golden color and maintains quite a thick, lingering head. Smells crisp and hoppy; tastes just like a no-bullshit IPA should - hops are very evident but not overwhelming. Alcohol content is perfect for this style at 7.5%.

What hop head doesn't love the smell on this beer? The flavor is super clean, but compared to a lot of others I'm just left wondering: what does this beer do for me besides deliver the essence of hops?

IPA had never been so one-dimensional before I tasted this. This beer is polarizing to me, because after drinking it, I am not reaching for another, but I can't deny that it was very very well made. So? I think its WAY over-rated.

The double jack, on the other hand, holds my interest.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter. 7.5% abv

Appearance- Gold in color with a slight haze to it. Frothy white head with good retention.

Smell- Instense grapefruit aroma coupled with earthy pine and a hint of pineapple on top of the citrus overload.

Taste- Some toasted malt flavors arrive to the palate first. The grapefruit is heavy as in the smell, and lasts through until a quite bitter and lasting finish takes effect.

Mouthfeel- Medium heavy with good carbonation.

Overall- I thought this beer could of used some more work on the malt aspect of the taste. With some sweeter malt mixed there would be much more balance, which would put this beer into outstanding territory. With that said it still is not bad by no means.

Look - golden color with great head and lacing.
Smell - citrus pine hope smell with a good malt backbone.
Taste - just like the smell with a great balance
Feel - crisp slightly creamy but could use a little more body but still fantastic.
Overall - fantastic ipa. It's a great normal ipa and if I could I'd get it more often.

Slightly hazy amber color with a moderate white head that lingers and produces a bit of lacing.

The aroma is citrus and a hint of pine, very nice.

The taste starts with a blast of grapefruit and pine resin followed by slightly sweet malt and tropical fruit note for a really nice balance. Finishes dry with more pine resin lingering to make you want another drink.

Light/medium bodied, very drinkable. Altogether a very nice IPA, one of the best.
