This came in a bottle with a nice looking label and its own fancy box. Nice.
A - An almost opaque, dark ruby pour only letting light in the top and bottom 1/8 inch of the glass.
S - a Very dark nose with smells of syrupy whiskey. Oaky sweet malt and vanilla. Has an almost buttery sugar sweet aroma.
T - A big bite of dark, oaky bourbon barrel hits the palate. Sweet, dark bourbon syrup. A buttery charachter from possible diacetyl additon. Slick dark sugars on the tongue. The dark sweetness here balances the oaky whiskey bite.
M - A very smooth, very slick mouthfeel. Still wondering the addition of daiacetyl to slick the mouth? Possibly but either way, a nice wet and smooth ride down the throat.
O - For a barrel aged beer, this one is pretty smooth and properly balanced. Im not a whiskey fan but I wasnt overpowered by the ammonia-like whiskey bite. A nice smooth mellowed dark beer.

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
