A - very dark ruby red. The label calls is "dark rust", which I would say is correct. Looks almost black away from the light, held to light, the red comes out. Not much head unless you really pour down the middle, then about an inch or so that retains for a bit.
S - a lot of caramel and vanilla dominate. Some bourbon and alcohol on the edges.
T - Taste follows the nose. Sticky vanilla and caramel up front. Very very smooth, with some light toasty malt type flavor next. Finishes with medium hop bitterness. It seems to lack a little bit of complexity somewhere, but its more than made up for with the smoothness.
M - just on the thick side of medium. Very low carb. Excellent.
O - really great beer. Super easy drinking, hides the ABV no problem. Could drink this every night. Only gripe would be a little lack of depth in the flavor profile, but overall an A/A+ beer

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
