Big thanks to screamforme for sending this my way in a trade a while back...
Into a CBS snifter... 2011 version
Dead still with a deep ruby/brown shade and no head or carbonation at all... Barrel aging, baby...
Huge aromas of pineapple, bourbon, chocolate, oak, some vanilla... Not a hint of that booze either... Simply amazing... The aromas are incredible and intense... Those pineapple hops are still unreal after all this time... The barrel is present and takes this barleywine above and beyond into the ethereal planes of what other barleywines only aspire to be... Its freaking unreal...
I'm speechless... I'm usually fairly critical of barleywines with any age on them at all as I like that sharp contrast between the bitterness and sweetness but this is a different story altogeher. Sweet pineapple, dark chocolate, stinging bourbon, earthy oak... No booze at all... This is just stupid... Stupid... At 13%, it's that ass in a hurry if not careful but I find myself not caring... It's in the upper 80's here today and I wish it was in the 30s as I'd sit out on the porch with my snifter and sublimely cruise into unconsciousness...
Easily the best barleywine I've ever had... Head and shoulders above all others... Thanks, Mark!!!

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
