2012 Edition shared with my Bro to celebrate new life!
A: Poured a 1/4 finger off-white head that settled to a thin ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Beer is a cloudy, murky ruby color that closely resembles liquefied caramel. Carbonation appears very fine. Kind of like Grammy’s china.
S: Blew me off the chair. Butterscotch, toffee, caramel, plum, prune, huge coconut, raison, bakers chocolate, FIG NEWTONS. The aroma is explosive. If they made a candle out of this, I would buy three.
T: The ABV asserts itself right away so you know Sucuba is not here to play games. There are multiple layers of flavor, unbelievable. To sum, it is the crispy caramelized edges of your favorite dessert. But wait, there is o so much more. In the first wave of flavor you get the ABV burn along with dark fruit, burnt sugar and sour yeast. The body of the beer is comprised of fermented medjool dates. Then the beer takes a wild turn for the third wave. You taste chocolate, vanilla, and coconut macaroons. One could describe it as toasted meringue.
M: Thick and chewy yet incredibly smooth. Coats your mouth with delicate dark fruits and a smoky char sweetness. Unfortunately, because you are obliterated from the heavenly aroma and complex flavor, mouthfeel is a second thought. At this point all you can hear is screams of "SUCUBA". You look around, but no one is there but you.
O: This beer is the epitome of deep satisfaction and mild arousal. Like a quicksand of layered flavors, it appears docile, but you will be taken down, down, down.
"You may resist at first, but her whispering call beckons you to imbibe"

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
