Into a wide-rimmed glass, pours a bright ruby body. Quite vibrant and oh so pretty. Didn't really notice the head too much, but from what I can recollect it wasn't substantial. Look at that ruby body though...
A bouquet of strawberries, hints of toffee, and just a little bit of graham cracker/sweetbread. Intense yet very well-balanced between all of the aforementioned aromas.
The flavors are complex, complex, complex, with the prior-mentioned strawberries and toffee nearly stinging the palate with intensity. Also some biting bitterness, with an overall smoothness that's just right.
Mouthfeel is ebullient upon swishing, thinner without.
Overall, this is a fantastic barleywine. Reminds me very much of Greenflash's Imperial Red, though with a lot more of the toffee and caramel notes that GF's IR just doesn't showcase. I could potentially knock back an entire bottle, though not sure what that would do for my constitution other than make me REALLY happy. OoOo:-]
(Update: had it on draft last week, and it's even better. All of the flavors were amplified, especially the sweetbread, toffee, and strawberries; my inspiration had led me to conclude this ranks with Parabola as FSW's top specialty-release)

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
