2013 Deep brown with ruby highlights. Thin tan, most unimpressive, head.

Aroma of bourbon soaked cherry but you have to go in and get it.

Getting an immediate bourbon head tic (I like that) but gotta sort through the booze here. There's a rootbeer like quality. Profiles of malt and oak. Some vanilla and toasted almonds. Nothing, though, really standing out strong as I'm searching for character. Cool whip cream finish and the alcohol lingers. Find the bourbon distracting at this young age.

I know this is young but I had to try it now. Last week I had the 2012 FSW Dbl DBA and it is a phenom. So I'm not concerned as much that this Sucaba has great potential because of the FSW barrel brilliance. This is a sipper and I'm getting a pretty good whack. Drinkable now and I got two for the cellar; we'll definitely see you next year.

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.

S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.

T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose

M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.

O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
