Poured from a 22 oz bottle into my trusty snifter. Couldn't find a more specific date than "2011".
A: Pours a semi-hazy reddish-brown mahogany color. Minimal head that fades pretty quickly...not for lack of carbonation though as it can be seen floating up through the body of the beer. Massive alcohol legs as well.
S: Huge booze-soaked raisins and other dark fruits: plums, figs...bourbon is pleasantly in the background. Some brown sugar and confectionary sweetness noticeable. No hop aroma at all.
T&M: A big chewy version of the aroma. Raisins, figs and plums. The bourbon is quick to move through the palate, which I very much appreciate - definitely not one of the main flavors here, just compliments everything else. I also get something of a granola bar taste. Oaty and sweet. Such a smooth viscous beer that coats the mouth and throat long after the initial sip. Carbonation is low. Very much full-bodied. No astringency from the alcohol, but definitely get some heat in the chest.
O: This is really a brilliant beer. Truth be told, I forgot that this was a bourbon-barrel aged beer until I got a whiff of the aroma...and I was a little bummed. I don't seem to have the appreciation for bourbon-barrel aged beers that some others do. But it was so complimentary to the other flavors that were going on in this beer, that I didn't find it at all offensive as I normally do. In fact, this may have changed my opinion on bourbon-barrel aged beers. One of few beers that have opened my eyes recently. A fun take on a Barleywine.

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
