Im splitting a room temp bottle with fish113d. Poured into a snifter the beer pours a clear mahogany hue with very little beige head and only the thinnest of edge layers remaining in the glass.
Aroma is big with figs, prunes, red grapes, general hot booze, some caramel and molasses. I dont get any real hop presence, but this beer doesnt hide the fact that it is a heavy hitter.
The first sip reveals a thick heavy brew with very minimal gentle carbonation.
Flavor is as the nose advertised with fgis and plums dominant with some molasses and a bit of caramel mixing in. The booze is warm on the finish as this one doesnt hide the "umph!" on each sip. I definitely put this in the sipper category but it is thoroughly enjoyed as well by this malty beer drinker.
The hops dont really show up anywhere and this is driven by the malt profile. I enjoy it and wish I had a 2nd bottle for aging.

A - Pours a rich, red-tinged black with a small white head. Minor lacing and retention.
S - Nice scent bringing lot of barley wine and barrel elements with other notes of goodness. Dark fruits come through the most, along with caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, light tobacco and alcohol.
T - Tons of maple and vanilla, a bit nutty, very similar to smell, some sips had some alcohol in the back of the nose
M - Surprisingly smooth. Packs a punch but in all the right ways.
O - An amazing barleywine and another amazing beer from Firestone. This to me is the second best barleywine behind King Henry right now. Glad I have a few extra bottles.

2011 reserve series in a brandy snifter.
Alcohol notes overwhelm the senses from the get-go. Like a fine brandy only better.
This is why I now prefer beer to other alcohol choices.
Mouthfeel and aftertaste leave a very pleasant taste and feel that makes each sip a joy to behold.
Life is good when one of these are at hand.

Poured into a large snifter after about 20 minutes out of the ice bucket. Deep reddish brown with a fair amount of tan, creamy head. Good lacing, and the collar was thick at the edge of the glass. Aroma of toffee, caramel, some woody earthiness, sweet medium roasted malt too. Taste is of toffee/caramel, leather, woody-earthy, very lightly smokey (perhaps because of the campfire). So damn good. Mouthfeel is all that barleywines should be. Appropriately carbonated, medium creamy body. I could drink this til the cows come home; too bad I have to trade for it.
