2012 bottle poured into a snifter. This one was a surprise at my local bottle shop the other day. Looking forward to it.
A- Pours a dark reddish color, almost brown. Hints of reddish purple can be seen through the edges of the glasses. Pours with a small amount of white head that quickly fades. Lots of lacing along the side of the glass.
S- Smells boozey more than anything to me. Getting some hints of dark fruits as well.
T- Wow, really unlike any barleywine I've had. First off is the caramel and dark fruit notes. Then comes the slight notes of hop character. The barrel-aging really shines in the taste, with great oak notes. This drinks very hot fresh, with an overly boozey presence which I like.
M- A great sipper. Definitely boozey, each sip leaves a warming alcohol feeling, especially as the beer comes closer to room temperature.
Awesome stuff, always impressed with FW beers. I'm glad I got to try this, and would be interested to get my hands on a bottle to see what some age does to this one.
