Dark cherry wood color when poured into a glass. Looks like concentrated cranberry cola-juice when put up to light. Color is deceiving; much more attractive in direct light.

Sweet, port wine smell. Oak, dark dried fruit, caramel, bourbon.

Initially silky. Followed by a slight sting of carbonation with dried plums, & dark cherry (almost medicinal) that lingers on the palate while the alcohol warms your throat & belly. You might even taste merlot & a hint of vanilla.

If my review was based on grades, the appearance would be the valedictorian, the smell the salutatorian, and the taste would be a graduate.

Had on tap at Mahaffey's (from notes, 10/19/13)

A: Dark brown, with a light head.

S: Malty, caramel and sweet barrel notes.

T: Malty. Burnt and almost roasty. Lots of barrel and whiskey.

M: Smooth with a slight prickliness.

O: Eh, not my favorite, but no burn. I will review this again with my bottle, but so far I don't get all of the hype.
