650ml bottle into snifter.
A - Dark reddish brown with a small off white head.
S - Vanilla, cream, bourbon, dark fruit, sweet caramel. Very complex and inviting.
T - An awesome blend of toasted malt, caramel, vanilla, and cherry. Hints of bourbon, molasses and oak. Finishes sweet with a touch of spicy alcohol.
M - Smooth and creamy, full bodied. Crisp, mild carbonation. Warming alcohol heat.
O - This is an excellent, delicious barleywine. Lots of sweetness throughout, but there is a nice balance between flavors. One of the best examples I've had.

Decided to wait on my beer ticking and make my 300th beer a special one. I think this definitely qualifies. I have been searching for this beer for forever and am so happy I finally get to try it. Thanks to 'whiskey' for the trade hook up.
The aroma on this beer is ridiculous. Reminds me a little of BCBS in how the bourbon is prevalent, but doesn't steal the show. It definitely helps hold the other nuances of dark fruit, chocolate, toffee and caramel up nice and tall. An expert touch.
Flavor is along the same lines. The time spent in the barrels definitely helped smooth this monster out and has made it less cloyingly sweet. Dangerously drinkable for a 12.5% ABV barley wine. Vanilla, oak, dark cherries, caramel and toasty malt all coincide gracefully in the glass with a nice mouthfilling effect on your palate. Long finish leaves you tasting it for minutes and all the while pining for just one more sip.
What an epic 300th review and another personal whale slain.

Appearance is a murky, dark brown beer. The head is nicely sized, off-white in color, and shows a good amount of lacing and fair retention.
The smells are big and bold, with an alcohol sweetness like in a holiday cake drenched in whiskey. Aromas include oak woodiness, sweet caramel malts, figs, molasses, spices and tobacco.
The taste follows the nose, with an extremely rich palate of bourbon whiskey and sweet malts. Other flavors remind me of brown sugar, molasses, maple and vanilla. There's an earthy hop character as well, but I don't really taste any bitterness, even though the FW website lists the beer as having 42 IBUs.
Mouthfeel is full in body with a moderate carbonation level. The finish is rich, sweet and malty, with aftertastes of wood and whiskey.
Overall a real gem. A slow sipping beer due to the intensity of flavors and alcohol. My only quibble would be that it may be a touch too sweet. Recommended!
Thanks to my cousin Brian for this one!
