Enjoyed fireside on thanksgiving - 8 months of age.
Poured into a mini-snifter - appearance of a porter. Dark brown, ruby red/light brown on the edges, towards the end of the glass it is actually transparent. There is a minimal beige head with nice barrel-aged retention. The aroma is nice but but muted - heavily roasted espresso, chalky dark chocolate, some hints of barrel. It tastes fantastic and huge! Incredibly rich chocolate - very dark bakers chocolate - heavy roast, espresso, some barrel sweetness of vanilla and very slight coconut, some oak as well. There isn't a lot of bourbon but certainly barrel presence. The mouthfeel is smooth, slick and full - carries the beer well.
Great barrel aged russian imperial stout but not all I expected or wanted it to be. Still a great beer.
