2012. Received in trade a few months back. A nicely viscous appearing black pour, just a ring of light tan bubbles. Some dirty oil brown tones.

Aroma, chocolates, vanilla, barrel. Roast malt, a faint anise. Nicely potent.

Taste, Big and tasty. Roast malt, molasses, vanilla, brown sugar. A myriad of chocolates. Some peaty whisky barrel. Some faint hop resin still endures along with the anise.

Coats very well, but carbonation is just a tad prickly to me. Could be a little thicker. Keeps it drinking pretty well though. A very under control warming. Certainly on par with KBS, Event Horizon and Bourbon County are still my favorites for various reasons, though this comes close.

Decided to crack this in honor of laying my first pet to rest. RIP my little friend.

2013 Vintage poured into Bell's snifter

A - Pours a little lighter than I was expecting. Mostly opaque, but a dark brown color rather than a viscousy black

S - Good amount of bourbon in the nose, vanilla sweetness, licorice, grapes, and a hint of chocolate.

T - Great complexity here. Taste starts with bitter coffee, nice and roasted. Comes into a good amount of bourbon, provides a kick of vanilla. Works into dark fruits before finishing again with some bitter baker's chocolate and a tinge of hop.

M - Drying almost, but smooth, very

This review should just say "Perfect" and that's it. But since the site has to have a certain number of characters I guess I'll keep writing.

The pour is jet black and unlike others in the class the head appears strong white and fades quick rather than having a thin to almost no head like others.

The smell is a simply sweet chocolate smell. Nothing too big but I like it cause it actually hides what is about to happen.

Ok, the taste is as perfect as they come. There is nothing better in the beer world hands down. And this comes from the biggest KBS fan and Founders fan there is. The taste is the definition of balanced. The bourbon is such great balance where is blends with the chocolate taste with literally no aftertaste. Smooth as smooth gets. It's a heavy feel but perfect for the style.

Overall, it's the perfect beer. It has everything you look for in a beer. Look, smell and taste are all superior to everything out there. The big complaint is this beer is extremely hard to get. I now have to wait another year to have this again.
