On-tap at Lazy Dog Cafe in Irvine

A: The pour is a clear golden color with with a fluffy white head on top.

S: The nose offers up some nice earthy and citrusy hops along with a biscuity malt backbone.

T: I was looking forward to this one from the aroma, but the hops have a fairly grassy flavor which put me off a little bit. The bitterness is pleasant along with some toasty malt and a touch of caramel.

M: The body is medium with a moderate and tingly carbonation on the tongue.

D: A decent enough pale ale, but the grassiness of the hops sort of ruined the experience. I suppose it wouldn't be a bad beer to have a pint of, though.

One of the "house brews" by Lazy Dog Cafe, which is contract brewed by Firestone Walker for the restaurant. Pint from the location in Orange, CA, on to the beer:

This brew shines a clear amber straw in the glass, leaving some lacing on the glass as it's consumed. This is a clean pale ale, floral hops and some dextrin in the nose. The taste is clean and well balanced for an American styled pale ale. Dextrin and caramel hit the tongue at first, then toasted malt follows. Crisp hops and floral and a tocuh of citrus scrub the palate of those malty notes. Easy on the palate and not overhopped. This is a good old-fashioned pale ale, lighter, clean, and refreshing.
