On-tap at Lazy Dog Cafe in Irvine

A: The pour is quite typical for an amber ale as it is (miraculously) amber in color with a small off-white head.

S: The nose is mild with some toasty and biscuity malts with perhaps a touch of citrus from the hops.

T: The flavor is rather bland as well with the primary flavors consisting of toasty and bready malts. The hops aren't very noticeable at all, perhaps just a touch of bitterness.

M: The body is medium with a slightly creamy feel on the tongue.

D: A decent enough amber ale, though I prefer the hoppier varieties of this style (579 characters)

Another "house brew" of Lazy Dog Cafe, which is contract brewed by Firestone Walker. On to the beer:

There's some good lacing and ...wait for it...amber color to this brew. This brew is somewhat sweet and bready upfront, then it fades to a smooch of citrusy hops and faint grassy herbs. Somewhat crisp and light to medium on the palate. There's a little depth to this beer, although the second half of my pint didn't seem as good as the first half. Still worth a try if you happen to stop by a Lazy Dog Cafe. Well, here's to 500 beer reviews! (545 characters)

For a contracted house beer, this is probably one of the better that I have ever had. Firestone is no slouch brewery and seemed to approach this beer as if they knew that their name would openly be associated with it. The beer is a perfect accompaniment to many of the plates served at Lazy Dog, so you have to give respect for the additional effort that went into creating a beer that is both drinkable for bar clients and food patrons alike. (443 characters)
