Notes/Commercial Description:
Oaktoberfest is a true German Marzen bier brewed with premium imported Pilsner and Vienna malts and is spiced with Bavarian hop from the mother land. Light Amber in color, soft malty profile, full bodied lager beer. Fermented with the famous Bavarian Augustiner Lager yeast from Munich. We utilized German Hallertauer Traditions for both bittering and aroma additions adding a rich, noble hop presence to this beer.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and grain flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is a solid American take on the style in my opinion.

dark amber colored liquid coming through immediately. This was followed up closely by some nice carbonation that could be seen through the very clear liquid that was in the glass. No real substantial head on this one which was kind of surprising, and this led to not much in the way of side glass lace either.

The aroma was rather light and muted, some decent malts, and a ton of bready like flavors, but overall just a touch too light for me. Crisp, clean feel, which was nice and adequately carbonated, but again, just a touch too light to really be effective. Smooth flavor started with a light hint of caramel and a touch of earthy grains. This quickly floated away though and the only thing left was a nice touch of biscuit like flavor that linger for a moment.

After sending back the disappointing Pumpkin Patch, I got this.

On tap, in a pint glass at Yard House Virginia Beach.

Appearance: Orange-ish amber color. Small amount of foam.

Smell: hints of fall. That'd be the best way I can put it.

Taste: Some spice notes, some pumpkin here. Bolder than the swill I just had. Good, not great.

Mouthfeel: not overly bubbly, got a good presence to it. No complaints here.

Overall: good not great is the best descriptor. At $7/glass, there are better options here.

Served cold in an imperial pint glass at Freshcraft.

Nice golden amber color with good clarity. The head is thick and leaves great lacing behind as it settles.

Aroma is classic marzen with biscuit malts, caramel, and just a little hops. Oak is not all that evident from the smell alone.

Flavor is really nice, well balanced, and enjoyable. Good sweetness that comes through with similar characteristics from the aroma but I also get vanilla from the oak. An ideal beer for the fall season as it starts to get cooler.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. Smooth and balanced.

Overall a great fall session seasonal. I would really like to see it in six packs.

On-tap and the Library Ale House, Santa Monica, CA, back in September 2012. The beer appeared a darker amber color that was clear with a nice one-finger head that was pretty light. The beer gave off a very nice, robust malty aroma with hints of biscuit. The taste was as expected from a marzen, a big malt flavor, perhaps toasted and no bitterness to note. The beer had a lighter moderate feel, but the carbonation seemed to be right. The beer was very easy to drink, it was clean and refreshing. Overall, a fine beer and one that I will hope to get next fall.

Pours a clear golden color with tight, white head that leaves little bits of lacing

Smells of lemony hops and pale malts.

Tastes of the pale malts with a nice hop edge to it. Malts lead off with a grainy sweetness and bready feel. Hops come next and add some grass, lemon, and floral notes. Malts and hops are balanced overall. Finishes fairly clean.

Mouthfeel is medium-light with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is solid, but is lacking the toasted malts associated with Oktoberfest styles.
