Notes/Commercial Description:
Oaktoberfest is a true German Marzen bier brewed with premium imported Pilsner and Vienna malts and is spiced with Bavarian hop from the mother land. Light Amber in color, soft malty profile, full bodied lager beer. Fermented with the famous Bavarian Augustiner Lager yeast from Munich. We utilized German Hallertauer Traditions for both bittering and aroma additions adding a rich, noble hop presence to this beer.

After sending back the disappointing Pumpkin Patch, I got this.

On tap, in a pint glass at Yard House Virginia Beach.

Appearance: Orange-ish amber color. Small amount of foam.

Smell: hints of fall. That'd be the best way I can put it.

Taste: Some spice notes, some pumpkin here. Bolder than the swill I just had. Good, not great.

Mouthfeel: not overly bubbly, got a good presence to it. No complaints here.

Overall: good not great is the best descriptor. At $7/glass, there are better options here.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and grain flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is a solid American take on the style in my opinion.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a dimpled mug. The label lists the abv at 5% abv.

Appearance: The body has a dark golden to light amber color with good clarity and some visible carbonation. The head is a very, very light tan/off white color and slow fading. From a tall two finger covering it settles down to thin wispy layer that just hangs on to the last sip. Lacing is very slick and very minimal.

Smell: There are nice sweet malty notes, bready notes, light nutty notes and pleasant earthy hops with some very light citrusy hops note as well.

Taste / Palate: The flavor has nice malty sweetness up front with well balanced hops finishing it off. The malt offers notes of light caramel and toffee with a touch light nuttiness. The hops balance the malt sweetness with spicy and earthy herbal bitterness and dryness. The palate feels right on. It’s smooth, nicely carbonated and very drinkable.

Tastes of caramel, nut, light chocolate, and earthy hops. Bit more complex for this style than I am used to, but very good. Glad I picked up a six.

Appearance - Pours crystal clear (so clear fingerprint smudges can be seen on the other side of the glass) and bright golden orange in color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention results in a broken layer of surface suds and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Lacing is sparse, with few spots here and there that hold well enough. 4

Smell - Strong grain and light bready notes with a moderate grassy hop aroma. Light honey. 3.5

Taste - Hops are stronger on the tongue than what the nose leads on to believe, with a prominent grassy hop character being the predominant character in the flavor profile. Malts are present, but subdued; mostly a grainy note with light bready sweetness. Touches of honey peek through here and there. Finish is slightly sweet, but most bitter with that grassy character that turns slightly waxy. 3.25

Mouthfeel - Light in body with fair carbonation. Soft and smooth before a crisp, semi-dry finish. 3.75

Overall - A pretty ho-hum oktoberfest, and a disappointment from Firestone-Walker. It's a bad sign when your Marzen is more hoppy than your "hoppy pilsner". Wouldn't buy again, and with the price I paid for the sixer it's a definite one and done. 3.5

Served cold in an imperial pint glass at Freshcraft.

Nice golden amber color with good clarity. The head is thick and leaves great lacing behind as it settles.

Aroma is classic marzen with biscuit malts, caramel, and just a little hops. Oak is not all that evident from the smell alone.

Flavor is really nice, well balanced, and enjoyable. Good sweetness that comes through with similar characteristics from the aroma but I also get vanilla from the oak. An ideal beer for the fall season as it starts to get cooler.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. Smooth and balanced.

Overall a great fall session seasonal. I would really like to see it in six packs.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear medium straw colored body.
The aroma has lots of dry grain smell with a little lemon in the background.
The taste has a mild sweet start, moderate metallic bitterness in the middle and finishes on a dry bitter note.
The texture is soft with moderate carbonation.
Looks great, smells nice and tastes excellent.
