Pours out with a thin soapy off-white head and a ruby body. Plenty of carbonation bubbles going through this.
Lots of barrel in the nose with coconut, vanilla, oak wood, caramel, toffee, cherry, dark fruitiness and some alcohol. Very inviting with the warm sweetness.
Subtle alcohol burn and plenty of warmth. The same flavors are popping on the palette with caramel, toffee, coconut, vanilla, graham cracker, cherry, raisin. Some sweetness comes through since it is such a big malty beer.
Not quite as big a mouthfeel as I was expecting from this 12% monster. Still a sturdy medium body that drinks smooth with some light carbonation.
Nice showcase of barrel aging and malt character.

Bottled 2013. Opened sept 2013.
A - Deep mahogany color. Tons of suspended sediment, even after a few days of rest. Thin, low, off white head. Ok retention and low lace.
S - Brown sugar, soft oak, maple syrup, caramel, apple pie, touch of cognac, nutmeg.
T - Awesome integration. Desert like sweetness. Honey, maple syrup, caramel, nutmeg, apple strudel, vanilla, warm bourbon booze.
M - Outrageously smooth. Creamy, full frame.
O - A dessert beer to be sure, but it is one hell of a dessert beer.
P - balaclava, or honeyed Greek yogurt with pistachios.

hmmm... been wanting to try this one, not knowing it's classified as an English Barleywine... but English Barleywines are supposed to be more smooth, less bitter.... right?
pours a very pretty ruby color, with none to little head.
aroma is all sweet barley, malts and very, very pleasing.... as if with some kind of English bitter beer malts (I suppose that's exactly how it classifies itself, huh?). but the smell is so pleasing, it compares to a good bourbon barrel aged brew or a very nice whiskey; not in smell, but in pleasing quality. I can go on absorbing this for hours... it really is THAT special to the nose....
taste is a bit sweet, no make that very sweet as it sits on the back of the tongue. minute bitterness. a bit tart. very 'english' in the taste (I have always liked the malts in English beers). this stuff is very good. for such a high abv, it is that much more impressive of a statement.
"mouthfeel" is standard from what i'd expect from this, but overall this is a nice brew. I really like this and I love the smell. this is a great offering from firestone and I think I need to find that "sucaba" I've been reading about...
