Poured from bottle into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a deep golden amber color with a one finger of rather fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving a good level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is huge of sweetness with tons of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar aromas. Along with these smells are some more sweet doughy and bready smells as well as a light amount of the oak due to the oak barrel ageing. Rounding it all out was a light boozy smell, overall giving the brew a rather warming smell.

Taste – The taste is just as the nose would have suggested, starting out with a hugely sweet flavor of caramel, and toffee. Along with these tastes was a doughy and bready taste. A brown sugar flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle, with a bit of a oaky flavor coming to the tongue. The sweet flavors fade ever so slightly toward the end of the taste with a little bit of a boozy taste coming to the tongue. While a boozy taste comes to the tongue at the end, it is minimal in comparison to the 12 % abv of the brew, in the end leaving a warming, smooth and sweet bready flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The thick body and low carbonation really help make this a slow sipper and really accentuate all the big sweet flavors of the brew.

Overall – A big and sweet brew with a nice warming and smooth feel. A nice slow sipper.

This was purchased this year and a 2012 Vintage.

The beer comes in a slightly light reddish brown color with a light white ring around it.

The aroma is really lovely. It has sweet caramel and toffee, a punch of coconut, oak, brown sugar sweetness with not much alcohol. The initial hit is of straight up Scotch with peaty notes and tons of sweet oak character.

The flavor follows with barrels, bourbon, toffee, vanilla, coconut, but carried by light brown sugar and caramel and molasses. The alcohol is extremely well hidden. The finish cleans off nicely without the sweetness lingering too long. The beer has a medium body that drinks smoothy with a bit of carbonation.

This beer really drinks very easily. The alcohol is not there for a 12% beer. It has a lighter sweetness than that dark, rich toffee sweet barleywine. It does a wonderful job for those who find those beers too big and would like to try something that turns things a bit down into more subtle complexity.

Pours a deep rich amber with a nicely formed one and a half finger off white head atop, great rich clarity and color to this beer.Darf fruit, vanilla, and sweet acohol dominate the nose, some toasted oak is there as well, smells like a booze bomb.Sweetness is the main flavor component of this beer, sweet dark fruit and bourbon notes mixed with more vanilla and jet fuel-like booze.Wow a little to much boozy sweetness for me,I wanna stay awake to see the Tigers beat the ugly beards!
