Poured into a HotD tulip on 6/3/11.
Pours a clear golden yellow with a fluffy white head that dissipates leaving a moderate amount of lacing on the glass. I would have like to have seen a darker color with more orange and red tones but the head is nice.
Smells of a rich and sweet malt backbone, maple and carmel. The hops are a nice mix of grapefruit and pine. The smells were unexpected. This has a very strong malt sweetness to it that almost seems to be the centerpiece to this brew until the hops slaps you in the face. NIcely balanced up front with a solid dose of hops.
Taste follows the nose. Lots of sweet malts carmel, and some alcohol but then a nice pine slap in the face with hints of grapefruit. Nice taste but the booze is knocking it down a bit.
Mouthfeel is medium in weight with little bitter bite. There is some alcohol burn. NIce pine resin after taste.
Overall this is a good beer. Is there better? Yea but this is a great beer. It takes hits for the yellow color and some booze smell and taste but overall I recommend this brew.
