22oz bomber poured into a tulip. Bottle provided by jodan, thanks Jordan!
No bottle date.
A - Pours an almost burnt orange with 2-fingers of eggshell white head. Retention is pretty good, lasting about halfway through one glass. Body is relatively hazy, can see a bit through it but it's distorted. Lacing is interesting as huge clumps of head stick to the glass, very thick and bubbly.
S - The smell brings me back to IPAs I've had prior that have a big pine aroma and it's a good memory. There's a big pine hop influence here, very resiny and wet. There's also the typical grapefruit and citrus smells as well as a pretty solid backbone given this IPA is from California! Slight caramel.
T - Taste is interesting and has one particular flavor I can't exactly pinpoint. It's almost like a strange bubblegum flavor? I've tasted it in a beer or two previously but I can't peg it at the moment... In other news, the pine continues here and it has a nice integration with the malts, which again are noticeable and bring caramel and a little toffee. The fruit here is more tropical, bringing pineapple, orange, and maybe even some peaches.
M - Mouthfeel is moderately heavy-bodied with low carbonation. While its resinous and heavy and does a number on the mouth, the low carbonation just kills this for me... it comes across as a bit too syrupy and heavy and just a little bit more pop would've done wonders. It's not flat but it's bordering on it...
D/O - Drinkability is moderate. Honestly, with everything I've heard from this beer, I can't say I'm not a little disappointed with how this turned out. A strangely off-tasting note in the taste, the low carbonation... If you are looking for a West Coast hop bomb, turn elsewhere, and if you are in the Midwest or East Coast, you have an abundance of beers that could compete with this one.
