22oz bomber poured into a New Belgium globe.
A: Pours clear orange. Thick bone-white head is comprised of tiny bubbles. Good retention, sticky lacing.
S: Sweet mandarin orange, mango, juicy peach, apricot. Maybe some melon. Lots of fresh, vibrant tropical fruit scents. Only the faintest whiff of a sweet malt base. Very good.
T: Moderate bitterness up front. Pine resin and some hop oils. Mandarin orange and some tropical fruit flavors from the nose are all there. Sweet malt base with a touch of caramel pokes through. Mild spiciness from the alcohol is reminiscent of lemon pepper. Finishes semi-dry with citrus rind bitterness and some apricot/peach.
M: On the lighter side of medium. Somewhat creamy. Very enjoyable.
O: A very good DIPA, and definitely up there with the best in the style.
Notes: This is just the sort of DIPA I like. A great balance of bitterness and tropical fruit flavors. Very easy to drink annd pleasing on the palate. Bitterness may not satisfy the rabid hop head though.
