On tap at Pour House in Gaithersburg, poured into a snifter. Nice think head with a golden orange color. Citrus aroma with a bitter sweetness to it. An intense fruity flavor that will leave any Imperial IPA fan happy, prominent grapefruit appearance but not overwhelming. Coats your mouth keeping you ready for the next sip. Excellent 9.5% IPA! (344 characters)

Sneefter pour. Looks a copper transluscent hue. Not much of a head. Mells floral piney fruity juice. Taste is surprisingly a bit different. More of the pineyness. Some citrus too. Hoppy fizz with a smooth malty wash and some alcoholy sweetness. Overall good. Especially at $3.25/12oz. (284 characters)

12oz bottle dated 10/30/2014 poured into a pint glass. Purchased this week.

A - Clear, golden orange, two finger fluffy head that slowly dissapates.

S - Bubble gum, orange, faint grapefruit, tinge of heat.

T - As you can see by the date, this could be a touch past its prime. Without having a fresh one to compare (this is the first I came across this), I can only assume this has lost a good bit of its hop balance. What comes through is sweetness, with a touch of heat.

M - Carbonation is a touch above medium, heft is full, things get sticky as it warms.

O - This held up well, considering its age, however I am looking forward to coming across a younger version (aren't we all?) to see if it stands up. (722 characters)

Solid but not really particularly special DIPA - surprisingly poor in comparison with most of the Firestone stuff I've had. Bunch of candy, grapefruit hops and piney-ness, but none of that syrupy sweet/bitter on the back on the back of the ton that I so enjoy in my DIPAs. Side-by-sided this one with a Ruination 2.0, and it got crushed. In my mind it tastes like an IPA, although the ABV would argue otherwise. (411 characters)

Double Jack is a perfect example of a NorCal IIPA. Not quite as brash as the SoCal/San Diego versions (which I also love, to be fair) this one offers a big blast of candied citrus up front, with nice hunks of bitter hop resin and a strong backbone of malt to keep it North.

It's a fantastic beer to share with a friend, or hell, hog it all up for yourself and reap the benefit of the big ABV (in a responsible manner, of course).

Keep the hits coming, Firestone Walker. (471 characters)

A very good DIPA, although personally I feel it falls a little short of the world class ones. Very piney nose, but not as powerful as I expected. Taste is resiny. Very good malt and hop flavor, but not qute fully balanced. There is a touch of unpleasant lingering bitterness in the finish. Overall, a great beer, but could be even better. (339 characters)

A classic West Coast DIPA. Very piney with tons of hops, tons of citrus, and tons of tropical flavors. Perfect carbonation and mouth feel and the bitterness is spot on. This has grown to be one of my favorites and perfect to pair with a nice dinner. (249 characters)

Wow, amazing amazing beer! Tons of citrus notes with a great piney/hoppy finish. The 9.5% ABV is hidden fairly well. My second favorite IPA next to Sculpin. (156 characters)

Great DIPA
A= Golen and clear, white head settles and rings the glass.
S=Malt, pine and a little alcohol.
T=Bitter hops, malt, caramel, some alcohol.
M=Moderate to high body, fairly bubbly!
O=No major complaints, really balanced for pretty high ABV DIPA. (254 characters)

Pretty beer. Golden color, pale tan head, fine foam, moderate persistence.

Smells great! Apricot and beer.

Tastes pretty good. Bitter apricots. Unusual hints of malt for an IPA. TBD whether I'll grow to like this, initially not so much.

Feels great. Rich like a double should be. Perfect carbonation. Fine bubbles.

Good finish, lots of bitterness here. Not great, but good. (377 characters)

Delicious double. Golden Amber w off white 1 inch head. Strong citrus at pour w hints of mango, orange and grapefruit. Hoppy but doesn't linger and no bitter aftertaste. Smooth flow and perfect carbonation. Not as strong as I was expecting with its ABV but def felt it as I finished the glass off. Will definitely buy again. (330 characters)

Very hoppy with a rubbing alcohol finish... Anyone can do hoppy, but hoppy with character? That is the sweet spot. Probably the worst beer I had from these guys.. However, I trust the consensus, so I will try it again (219 characters)

Delicious IPA‼️They're dated, and I'd suggest getting them as fresh as possible, but these are beers to be bought when you see them. Perfect carbonation..... (161 characters)

Pours a nice, clear, brilliant light orange with a thin, white head. Smells of a new indeed up hope and candied citrus fruits. Nice crisp piney citrus with resin and a good amount of funk. Not overpowering for a DIPA. A very good, balanced beer. (250 characters)

It looked and smelled great. At first I enjoy the taste as well. but the last third of the glass seem to have a strong alcohol burn. I'm not sure if it changed as it warmed or if I had an off bottle. Would try again because I know the brewery makes great beer. (261 characters)

Poured from a bomber bottle.

L - Beautiful appearance. Deep gold or medium copper color and crystal clear. Off white head is thick, rocky and persistent. Lots of lacing.

S - Aromas of strong but restrained citrus/grapefruit-like hops. Sweet, bready malt and even sweeter alcohol notes. Low oak.

T - Strong hops with grapefruit and low melon. Bready malt is much lower. Alcohol sweetness and light oak in the finish.

F - Medium to heavy body. Moderate carbonation. Super strong hops bitterness initially, followed by slightly mouth-coating sweetness in the finish. Moderate alcohol burn.

O - A great double IPA. No faults. My only preference would be a bit more malt flavor. (690 characters)

It's body is a pale amber with a tiny flushed white head clinging to the side of the glass with a couple of clouds in the centre

From the moment I started lifting the cap of the bottle I got Citra
there is caramel there & traditional butter fudge it smells very inviting

Pine then sweet malt then warming to an intense citrus bitter finish

nicely carbonated, robust mouth feel

Good stuff (393 characters)

Medium Amber (12) with thick white head and thick lace. Caramel candy, tropical fruit, and lemon nose; caramel malt malt flavor with a little lemon zest and hop bitter bite on tip of tongue. Medium mouthfeel; resinous tongue coating with some residual bitterness, but not cloying. A very balanced DIPA with layers of caramel, fruit and hop bitterness hiding bigger ABV. Well done. (381 characters)

Poured at a local craft beer pub. Firestone can't seem to make a less than great beer, but I prefer Union Jack to this which has more resin, pine and is sticky. Very good imperial IPA but a bit too much of a good thing. (221 characters)

Standard pour from a 20 oz bomber into a tulip. Crystal-clear amber in color, with a dense two-finger cream-colored head on top. Good retention here... the head falls slowly leaving lots of sticky lacing.

Aroma is very hoppy, very bright and floral (almost minty) with prominent lemon notes as well. This beer smells like springtime... if Firestone Walker decides to get out of this beer game, they should consider making artisinal soap.

On the tasting there's a bit of lightly sweet caramel malts up front, followed by aggressive hop bitterness- grapefruit, lemons and dank pine needles, with some peppery spice, along with a noticeable amount of alcohol. The finish is dry, and very bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium-light, perhaps just a bit lighter than one might expect from a double IPA... a bit oily, with moderate carbonation. Comes in at over 9% ABV and feels like it- the booze here isn't masked.

A big IPA in the West Coast tradition, with lots of in-your face hops paired with a fairly robust, yet smooth malt support and plenty of booze to keep it honest. I've had a few better than this (and my personal tastes in IPA lean more towards the East Coast style) but this is still very solid. (1,204 characters)

Got this from a trip I made to Arizona a few weeks ago. bottled 3/12/15.

The taste and nose are about the same on this one. I got a lot of citrus and grapefruit up front, followed by some light bready biscuit then a sharp pine. I would say on the taste end, that the pine biterness isn't as dry as I expected.
Maybe because this is just shy of 2 months old, I found it to be a little thin. The flavors were great over the palate but were quick to dissipate.
I would definitely grab this again if given the chance. Great beer (531 characters)
