Firestone Walker's Double Jack is brewed in the style of an American Imperial IPA. Available year-round, it is unavailable due to distribution to the state of Georgia. I lucked out due to a pair of awesome traveling parents who aren't shy at visiting package stores everywhere they go.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass. Served north of 56º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours an eggshell white head of a creamy foam consistency over a golden-amber body, heavily filtered with moderate carbonation. Retention is good with sudsy lacing remaining as the rest of the head fades. The appearance of this beer is excellent. 4.5

(Smell) Aromas of perky citrus, grassy and floral hops. Notes of lemon and tangerine are most evident in the citrus aromas. Perceivable bitterness is medium-high. Malt body is a mildly toasted caramel, very clean and heavily caramelized. Balance is slightly in favor of hop flavor and bitterness. Potency is medium. 4.25

(Taste) Juicy citrus hop flavor of semi-sweet oranges and grapefruits, a lesser peppery hop profile and a rounded clean caramel sweetness to match. The balance is slightly in favor of a sweeter profile over bitter, although it comes pretty close, the malt profile, as simple as it may seem, edges out the hop character. 4.25

(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth and mildly oily. Carbonation adds a touch of creaminess but doesn't impact the flavor much otherwise, relatively tame and uninvolved altogether. Body is medium+ for a Double IPA, medium overall. I felt that the carbonation was a bit undecided in this beer, and didn't really form a complete mouthfeel either way, yet didn't negatively impact the flavor nor texture of this beer on its own, it could have done a better job. 3.75

(Overall) Firestone Walker makes a very enjoyable and well-built Double IPA in Double Jack. My biggest criticisms are a slightly off-balance in favor of a heavier malt body presence, a lower, less interesting and prominent hop profile to match and a confused, perhaps flat mouthfeel. The beer is still outstanding despite some "seasoned DIPA expectations" gripes, but critical feedback is inevitable if one digs far enough. I hope to try this again in future at an even fresher date, but this one was as close to fresh as I could get it here in Georgia. 4

poured into a pint glass.

A- Poured a hazy orange, slightly see through. about a half inch head. good lacing as well.

S - fruity notes right off the bat... peaches...pineapple..some sweet malt.

T - A lot of fruit up front then towards the middle you get more fruit then at the end you get smacked with pine that lingers. slight bite, leaving you wanting more.

M - Light carbonation, mediumish body. not so much creamy.

overall this is a super awesome beer. really drinkable and dangerous considering its a 9.5.
loving it.

355ml bottle bought from online from the Brewdog Shop

Poured a nice bright clear coppery orange colour. Slightly off white head poured quite big and foamy then faded fairly quickly to wispy covering with thick edging... no carbonation at all... light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Lots of (over) ripe tropical fruits (pineapples, limes, mangoes, grapefruits), strong piney resin, light caramel sweetness, citrus and grassy hops, some rubberiness, floral honey, very perfumed, oaky traces, faint talcum powder / chalky notes, light almond nuttiness, some boozy esters...

Taste - Lots of strong piney and citrusy hop bitterness to the fore, quite herbal - hints of basil and rosemary, very floral and perfumed, some sweet caramel malts come through after the hops, very spicy and juicy fruits (grapefruits, limes, pears, some banana), some chalkiness, faint vegetal traces...

M&D - Fairly smooth with a little oiliness in the background then some sharpness comes through - your mouth will tingle for a while after drinking a bottle of this... medium bodied... dangerously drinkable as the alcohol is well hidden..

Overall - An excellent and very well balanced DIPA - up with the best i've had... definitely recommended...
