At last, I am tasting Double Jack. I just recently got turned on to Firestone Walker and particularly their Union Jack IPA, which has become one of my favorite beers, so this one should be extra satisfying. They certainly have the look down, with good carbonation, excellent clarity and head retention, pouring a beautiful golden amber color here.

The aroma is simply intoxicating... with ripe fruit esters - citrus, peaches, apple, mango, pineapple, and kiwi, as well as detectable spices and malt in the mix. One sip and I'm sold on this, with it's balanced malt and hop bitterness. The bitterness is much more pronounced than you would think going by the aroma. It also creeps up on you, building up to a near pucker in the coarse dry finish. The middle however is nice and bready though, and a little toasty too.

This has a full, almost sticky mouth feel, which I like, and is a little warming on the way down due to the relatively high ABV. Overall, I am very impressed with this beer, but, at about 6 months old, I have to wonder how much better it could have been had it been bottled more recently. I do love that fruit like beginning, soft biscuity center and creeping massive bitterness for the climax though. Obviously try this.

A - Pours a really nice, golden orange/copper color with a slighty off-white head. Lacing is thin, but sticks nicely to the glass.

S - Lots of citrus, grapefruit and tangerine. I also get just a hint of pineapple, then you're hit with the the piney, hop aroma. The malts add a really nice, sweet aroma to balance this. I really dig the smell.

T - Wow. Great citrus, tropical and piney flavors balanced with sweet, caramel malt. It's definitely hoppy, but the malts in the middle balance this out so well. It's delicious.

M - Medium carbonation. Surprisingly dry and crisp for a DIPA with a little heat on the finish. There's just a little resiny taste that lingers. Just not at all what I'm used to from a DIPA, and I really enjoy it.

O - An incredible DIPA. The hops and malts are balanced incredibly well, and the alcohol is well hidden. You get a DIPA with delicious flavors that doesn't destroy your palate. This beer deserves recognition as one of the best DIPAs out there.
