From a 2.5 pint bomber by the time it got to my tongue.
Lots & lots of raw rubber intense pine grapefruit on the nose this has an orangy golden colour. Not big head, maybe a quarter inch at most, but the head is very glossy. In the mouth there is some sap and malt, maybe a touch of silk too, but certainly matter than I expected. Some passing hints of malt in the background but totally surrounded by all those hops and stuffing. So so much stuffed in here but it remains a really begging linear harmonious whole. A powerful intense beer that goes the distance .

Bomber to my snifter, no freshness date

a- Pours a dark gold with great hue and a finger of head. Mild carbonation slowly bubbling from about six or seven spots in the glass. Good lacing

s- Hops, hops, hops. strong tropical fruits, grape fruit, and orange zest. Sweet malt and alcohol follow through the end

t- Strong hops and fruit. Pine, citrus, and especially grapefruit is well represented and sticks around for the after taste accompanied by a sweet subtle malt. One of the more fruity ipas I've had.

f- Very bitter, good finish. More of a wet finish which is done very nicely. Nice tingle on the tongue with a good alcohol warmth

o- One of the better west coast dipas on the market. Very fortunate to have it regularly; pick up a bottle every month or two, really wished they had six packs of this. Firestonewalker doesn't disappoint

A: Burnt orange and clear in color. Two fingers of barely off white head with decent retention. A good amount of lacing that sticks pretty well to the glass.

S: Piney hops and citrus, mostly grapefruit and a little bit of lemon. Some sweet malt in there too.

T: A good amount of bitter hops up front. Sweet malt , piney, and citrus flavors. Citrus is a mix of grapefruit and orange. A hint of apricot flavor. There is an occasional booziness on the way down.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation. A little stickiness.

O: Not super complex, but sometimes you can't put a price on drinkability. If you like citrusy and hoppy DIPAs, then this is the beer for you. If you are looking for other flavors besides citrus in your beer, then this might not be the one for you.

Appearance: Dark orange/amber with a bright white head that laced nicely. Very sticky as it went down the glass.

Smell: Lots of citrus hops on the nose with grapefruit predominantly up front. There's definitely some pine in the background and I'm getting just a touch of malt.

Taste: Not very heavily upfront on the hops. Lots of citrus, grapefruit, and some pineapple sweetness. I'm getting some pine in the background of the palate as well. There's some malt trying to soften the hops, but it unfortunately puts the beer in a odd area of not being a hop blasting Double IPA but also not being very well balanced.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel was fairly medium. Maybe slightly sticky.

Overall I would put this as a slightly above average Double IPA. I would definitely be happy to order it again (and probably will), but it didn't entirely blow me away.

Poured form 12oz bottle into a perfect pint glass. Date on the bottle says 08/13/2012, so 6-7 weeks on it.

Pours a nice smooth translucent crisp golden color, which holds light really well. Nice bubbles. About two fingers of white head, some retention on the glass. I absolutely love the smell of Double Jack. It's floral, sweet, piney, and citrus, but heavy on the former two. Taste is more pine and citrus forward, which I do not mind at all. Aftertaste is piney and resinous, it lingers for sure. Mouthfeel is smooth and enjoyable, with some bite; fairly crisp. Overall, I really like Double Jack, very cool to see it in 12oz format. For me, smell here is a huge plus. Cheers.

Love the simple, no frills packaging on this brew, so I decided to pick it up. DIPA's are typically not my favorite, but I'll try anything. On a side note, I went out to Paso Robles one time and had the time of my life, so I always have a spot for things from Paso. That being said, I may have grabbed this simply because the brewery was there. Whatever. Side poured with standard vigor from the bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - Two finger pure white head that hang around for a minute or two and leaves decent lacing. Pours a deep orange, maybe gold color and is almost transparent.

Aroma - You know from the jump this is going to be a big beer. Citrus and piney hops collide with tangerine and grapefruit, producing a very complex and powerful nose. Some mlaty can be sniffed in the background, but not much.

Taste - Was there a dump truck of hops somewhere in that beer? Because that's what it tasted like. Huge hoppy citrus, pine, grapefruit, tangerine, and all the other flavors that make hopheads excited are present in the taste. Hops dominate the front and middle of the drink, with a faint malt in the background. Not too bitter though, like some DIPA's.

Mouthfeel - Good carbonation level, finishes clean and dry. The big ABV is well masked.

Overall - Outstanding beer, good example of any style, but especially of the DIPA. This is the kind of beer a brewery can really hang their hat on and be proud of. Excellent work from the FW crew. Highly recommended

this one is definitely one of my favorite doubles on the market for a few reasons and here they are. yes the Hop complexion is pronounced but its even release of the malt is only noticed when enough of this great liquid is assimilated by the pallet at least for me anyway. a blast of floral and fruity notes hit the noise first before having the first sip and then the complexities abound when into the first few real mouth fulls. on draft its mouthfeel is absolute perfection not too sharp not too thin, a good melding of ibu's and sweeter characters are prevalent. definitely a stand out beer for a stand out brewery here no matter how's its served this one is gold in a glass for me!
