A - Beautiful beer. It's clear with some carbonation coming from the bottom. Honey orange color with a frothy 2 finger off-white head that sticks around and leaves a really nice lacing.

S - I smelled this thing when I popped the cap, before it was even off. Huge tropical fruits. Peach and mango. Some citrus. Sweet malt smell. It's a pretty sweet beer, unlike west coast IPAs, but smells great nonetheless.

T - Same as the smell. Some alcohol, but at 9.5%, not too much. Definitely getting a lot of sweet malt, but the hops are there. I'd say this is more like a Midwest IPA like a Hopslam, Double Trouble, Dreadnaught type. Definitely not a hop bomb like Pliny or Ruination, etc. There's a touch too much alcohol for my liking, which lowers it to a 4.

M - Really creamy and rich. Moderate carbonation. Goes down very easily. Half the bottle is gone already and it's only been 10 minutes, so that says something for a 9.5% beer.

O - I'd really recommend anyone try this who digs DIPAs. It's not going to blow you away with bitterness, but if you like IPAs with a nice sweet malt and fruity hops, this one is for you.

bomber, no freshness/brew date noted

eyes...
audible "quisch" as the cap pops, 2 fingers of head stack up in the ole glass, barely orange hue, lacing is eh but there is the tell tale legs that should speak of the ABV, ample carbonation streams up from the nether regions re-supplying the head, keeping it from dissipating beyond one nice layer, pretty good looking, you'd definitely bang her at 2 am but at 8pm you would be looking for other options.

nose...
amarillo grapefruit goodness anyone ? resin, thick honey, irish spring clean, did 3 floyds brew this? pretty much straight forward but then this does not need to dance, nice juicy hops.

taste etc...
kind of middle of the road, I was expecting a bit more bitterness or more malt in the taste. Then boom the bitterness really asserts itself in the aftertaste. this is like sucking on grapefruit pith (which I happen to like). The after glow of this brew seems to far surpass the actual sipping... ? weird. let's try some more...
same deal, it is like drinking water with an aftertaste. the body is a bit light, there really doesn't seem to be enough malt to give this heft. The ABV does warm the belly after a few minutes... This beer is confounding. I can't say it is bad but it leaves a lot to be desired in a crowded genre.

verdict?
Middle of the road DIPA, very easy drinking if you can deal with the big bitterness on the back end. Not worth sacrificing a goat over.

Poured from a 650mL bottle into a BrewDog cervoise glass. Bottled 12 May 2011. From notes. Reviewed 8 July 2011.

A: Very nice, tight, light head. Light yellow-orange; clear. Good lacing.

S: Huge and great hops. A bit vegetal. Ruby grapefruit. This is what an IPA should smell like.

T: Disappointing. Light, vegetal hos, a bit malty-strong as well. The aftertaste is hoppy-dry. Humph. Better DIPAs are out there.

M: Nothing to complain about here. Malty-robust. A bit dry. Good.

O: Good beer. I'd recommend it, if not have again. As I said, if you want a Double IPA, seek elsewhere.

Bomber poured into tulip.

A - Clear sunny orange in color with a small creamy white head.

S - Incredible. Huge bouquet of juicy grapefruit, mango, peach, and tropical fruit. The aroma literally filled the room during the pour.

T - Sweet tropical fruit, mango, and pine at the forefront. Mild caramel malts provide excellent balance throughout. Finishes with a blend of strong, bitter citrusy hops and earthy malts. Pretty, pretty good.

M - Medium-full body, smooth, average carbonation. Dry finish with warming alcohol.

O - Easy drinking, balanced, and delicious. It's a stunning brew, and my favorite from Firestone Walker. The extremely flavorful hops and strong malt character in this beer make this one of the most well-rounded DIPA's on the market.

A: A nice somewhat clear coppery orange, definitely enticing. Lacing all over the place, poured a two fingered head into pint glass which was fairly retentive.

S: I found this to have some very unique characteristics. Hops are strong, but I wouldn't say they dominate the bouquet; I got a lot of malt and doughy baked goods, and the tropical and citrus fruits are also there, but not as strong as anticipated.

T: Hoppy, very very hoppy, so hops dominate. Pine and citrus have a presence, and there are some faint malt notes here as well. That being said, it's a somewhat smooth DIPA and the alcohol is masked well by the flavors at work. Not being the biggest fan of the style, I still found it quite enjoyable.

M: Really the standout for me. Nice residual left on the palette after a sip, and of course it is bitter, but not overwhelming like so many others in the category.

O: I can tell that a lot of heart and soul went into this brew, Firehouse definitely displays master craftsmanship with this ale. An outstanding representative of the west coast style.

Bomber Poured into a mug.

Appearance - Light coppery orange, 2 finger very light tan head that recedes decently fast and leaves a moderately thin layer on top, lacing is impressive.

Smell - From the second i cracked it i was met with massive citrus piny hops. Very enticing.

Taste - Piny delicious bitter Hops followed by a tiny alcohol bite, then sweet aftertaste. It's incredibly drinkable for 9.5%, it goes down just as easily as anything.

Mouthfeel - Moderate carbonation, feels a bit heavy.

Overall - Pretty delicious, well worth it. Will get again at some point.

Pours a deep, clear orange with a huge rocky white head that linger and laces.

Smells of sweet, floral grapefruit and pine with notes of lighter fruit, apple, and some earthy wood quality. Hint of malt sweetness are also present. Different and interesting aroma.

Taste is up front grape/stone fruit that goes into a pine/tropical fruit middle before ending on a bitter kick that has more tropical fruit notes along with grape, apple, peach, floral, and just a tiny hint of barrel, that comes across as earthy. So interesting and tasty! This is a top tier DIPA no doubt about it.

Medium to lighter body with medium carbonation. Light, smooth, and easy to drink. The alcohol is present but balanced.

I'm really impressed with this beer, then again, FW has yet to not impress me. A great, different DIPA.
