A- Pours a slightly hazy, brilliant gold color. Two finger head that retains and laces tremendously.

S- Tons of pine notes. Hints of sweetness intermingle, maybe slight honey scents.

T- Very similar to the scent, but more complex. Bitter hops up front provide a pine and floral start. Very solid malt backbone comes through and provides a good balance. There is a definite hint of sweetness in the middle before a strong, hoppy, very bitter finish.

M- Very carbonated, but still surprisingly syrupy. Thick, but also somewhat light on the palate. Malt holds the bold hop profile very well. Hides the 9.5% ABV very well, and this one will sneak up on you very easily. Somewhat of a palate destroyer. Don't let this one hit your whole tongue every sip, or your taste buds will hate you for it.

Overall, another strong offering from FW, and a great way to celebrate International IPA Day!

Appearance: Amber color with a medium-sized white head that gradually faded.

Smell: Primarily Pine aromas.

Taste:The pine aromas carry over to the taste. The malts make themselves known as a slight sweetness. The alcohol is well hidden. Very crisp and clean after-taste.

Mouth-feel: Medium body with a medium level of carbonation.

Overall: A good beer in my opinion.

i was recommended this beer by a microbrewer near me who brewed possibly the best ipa of any style i've tasted so far in my short beer infatuation. i looked around a lot for this beer but surprisingly found it at the liquor store closets to my apt. stars were aligned, or so i thought.

poured out of a bomber into a snifter glass. the appearance is a copper gold, and a gentle pour produced a beautiful 1 inch head. solid retention and nice lacing through and through.

on the nose, it's primarily piney, resiney hops. some citrus and a little bit of malt background. all of it is very intense, and there's a significant amount of alcohol burn even on the nose. i suppose it's what you'd expect from a DIPA.

the taste is very much like the nose. piney, resiney, citruisy, and sticky with a bit of alcohol burn. the caramel malt background is definitely present and appreciated, but man the hops dominate this brew. overall, it's very pleasant tasting. and smooth.

mouthfeel is on the heavy side. it's sticky and resiny with medium carbonation. this thing s a meal unto itself.

didn't blow my socks off, but it's still a very good beer overall. personally, i feel a lighter version of this beer would fare much better for my palate. union jack, here i come!

Huge fan of this beer. I have not had any Firestone Walker brews before, but this is a really nice IPA. Nice all around. Crisp, refreshing, bitter, tart....
A: Pours exactly what a great IPA should look like
S: Citrusy notes, fresh, clean
T: Bitter and tart, but not at all sour...this is a really smooth, right on IPA
O: A really fine IPA, this is good....

It's a rare thing for me when a double IPA is outshined by it's single counterpart. Union Jack is just that good. I think this one offers a little more in the nose, but the extra alcohol and stickiness of the Double Jack get in the way a little more on the tongue. Don't get me wrong, though, it's still a great IIPA, but when you also consider the stiffer competition in this field, I can't give it my highest recommendation.
