3.6/5  rDev -6.5%
look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

A: Crystal clear yellow pour with about a finger or two of white head. The retention and lacing are both top notch. 4.5

S: The aroma is wheaty with some complimenting pine and citrus hops. It seems to have a maltiness underneath, pretty light overall. 3.5

T: The taste continues the wheat, slight hops and malts theme. The hops do seem to take a larger part in the taste than they did in the aroma. The malt base is more prevalent. It seems to be a pilsner pale ale mix. 3.5

MF: Extremely light and crisp with a medium to low carbonation. This beer is damn drinkable. I put down my serving very quickly. 4

Pairing: This was the introduction beer, so it wasn't paired with anything but a speech, which was very well done. 4

O: Really nice offering, but nothing special. I probably wouldn't pick it up again. 3.5

First had: on tap at Monk's, Philly, PA

Here's a nice little easy-going pale ale. I had this while I was waiting for the Funky Buddha Berliner weisses to go on. Served in a shaker, a clear golden color with a delightful puff of white head that sank quite a bit, but left some nice lacing on the way down. Not much in the aroma from what I could perceive anyway; light toasted grains, floral hops, pretty standard stuff. Taste of sweet biscuity malts, nicely balanced by fresh floral hops, slight citrus notes. Light, crisp, basic. Light body and easily drinkable.

Poured a 2 finger, soapy head. Good retention, but not excellent. Settled down to a nice blanket of foam till the last drop, with lacing leaving its presence throughout my whole glass.

S- dank resinous pine, earthy, cracked pepper, pineapple and orange peel.

T- once again, dank piney taste which is refreshing and satisfying in filling my hop needs. Spices give it a kick and the dank hops take it to the next level. Alcohol? Not present.

M- medium-low carbonation. dry finish and goes down easy.

O- Love the dank, resiny pine and floral notes that are written all over this beer. Made its way up with some of the best, and its readily available. Solid 4 all the way across.

Appearance: Absolutely clear gold. Head is bright-white, bubbly, and drops to a tiny ring after a minute or so. Lively carbonation and a great depth of color. Tiny hints of lacing.

Smell: Pale, roasted malts. Cracker and a touch of white bread crust. Nice citrus hit pulls closer to grapefruit, but just barely. Dances around citrus. Bready backing malts add a nice rounding characteristic. Mild sweetness. Nicely floral.

Taste: Bready citrus. Touches of tropical, pineapple, linger in the back. Dry bitterness. Orange and grapefruit rind with a touch of juicy citrus flesh. Pale malts and some mild sweetness. Big cracker. A touch sweet.

Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation on a medium body. Lingering dryness pulls throughout the drinking process.

Overall: A well-crafted take on the style. It's no Double Barrel Ale, but it carries the same level of balance as I've come to expect from Firestone Walker.

Pours a slightly murky honey orange with a 1 inch foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some pine aromas. Taste is of malt, herbal/pine hops, and some citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good pale ale with a nice balanced malt and hop flavor that is easy drinking.

12oz bottle secured from the Boise CoOp, poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Clear vivid gold, with a smallish wispy white head that leaves some ok lacing...very light and refreshing looking.

S: Dry hopping hits as soon as the cap is lifted; floral and tropical, citrus, orange, mango, pineapple, with an underlying honey sweetness and pale malt graininess.

T: More balanced than the nose, mild but well executed; the floral citrus characters are here, with some orange and tangerine, hints of spiciness, grainy malt and faint caramel.

MF: Light and refreshing with a surprisingly dry finish. Crisp and clean as it fades away.

O: Drank this way too fast; overall its a perfect light summer hoppy session ale. Not overwhelming in any category, just plain solid.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for acquiring this

Consumed 5/17/12

Appearance: Clear, dark gold - fizzy white head that keeps a wispy cap, streaks of lacing

Smell: Nicely hoppy - floral citrus, with some pine and tropical notes - orange and grapefruit, with a touch of pineapple - pale, grainy malts underneath, and a mild sweetness

Taste: Mild yet tasty - floral citrus - orange and tangerine, mostly flesh, a hint of zest, a touch of pith - some pine and some tropical flavors - pale malts, sweet grains, provide a nice base - on the sweet side, but not overly sweet

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, very smooth, very clean, nicely carbonated

Overall: Remarkably solid

I am actually surprised at how much I like this beer. The hops in this beer are unlike anything I've encountered from Firestone Walker, and I approve. I hope this starts to show up on the East Coast because I would drink this often.

5/13/2012

A: Yellow with good clarity and a finger of white foam.

S: Tangerine and grapefruit balanced by biscuit and bready malts. Lightly sweet with soft floral aromatics. Gives the impression of balance.

T: Upper low level of bitterness with a light and ephemeral malt sweetness. Biscuity and grainy with tangerine and orange flesh. Smooth crisp and dry finish.

M: Lower medium body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: A highly drinkable balanced Pale Ale. Expertly brewed, but I prefer them a bit hoppier.

Deep gold, this has a small off-white head steadily thinning to thin ring & wisps.

Aroma is grapefruit, orange, bread crust, fruit candy. Very much a West Coast pale ale, but a good example, nicely balanced, well-rounded.

Taste is nice dryish orange-bread crust with spicy peppery citrusy bitterness, jammy citrus and spicy bitterness. It’s nice, well-made and nicely integrated as Firestone Walker beers seem always to be, but not great, and a bit to utterly “west coast” for my tastes.
