12oz brown bottle with pry-off cap bottled on 06/10/2014. Poured into Saint Arnold "Barrel" glass.
Appearance: Pours a clear, copper amber with 1 finger of head
Smell: A mix of floral hop and biscuity malt with a slight caramel
Taste: Hop bitterness up front with some pale, biscuit malt in the middle and the barrel character doesn't come into play until the finish giving a little complexity.
Mouthfeel: Creamy and finishes quite clean with a slight sweetness
Overall: The barrel characteristics make this interesting and deters it from being another run-of-the-mill English pale ale. There is a nice balance of flavors between the malt and bitterness. I'd really like to try this cask-conditioned.
