On tap at Cheeky Monk over lunch. The beer is served in a tulip and arrives a murky hazy brown, like Coke, with a 1 finger cream colored head. Good retention and lacing throughout. Looks better than it is, in hindsight. The nose is rather muted, not not unpleasant, with tones of roast, caramel, and earthy hops. Not a lot to discuss. The flavor is very much the same with a caramel malt base sweetness. Roast and earthy hops. Not much in terms of flavor or complexity. Smooth and adequately carbonated. Overall, rather blah really. Nothing phenomenal. Not bad just not much to report, rather bland. Rare to be turned off by a Firestone Walker brew, bummer.

Kind of a musty smell. Have to admit it is a lovely brew in the glass with big, creamy, and long-lasting head. Golden-tinged brown in color. Nice mouthfeel with the fine carbonation and a little slickness.

Flavor is not much, even for a Brown Ale. Slight suggestion of roast malt. More caramel in the color than in the taste. A little nondescript dirty flavor. Something like sage with a touch of varnish.

Such a well-made beer, I am giving Firestone lots of credit for knowing how to brew. But they've wasted their talents here. If you ignore the anemic flavor you can enjoy the suds and beery mouthful. On tap at Ciros Beerhouse in San Diego.

Served on-draught into a nonical half-pint glass at the Firestone Walker taproom in Paso Robles on its second day of operation. Reviewed from notes. Expectations were average given the brewery - which I'm not too fond of.

Paired with a steak and fries.

A: Pours a half finger head of nice thickness, nice cream, and awful retention. Colour is a cola amber.

Sm: Amber hops, cream, caramelized malts, and dark malts. A mild strength aroma. Hemp doesn't at all come through.

T: Clean dark malts, amber hops, hints of cherry fruit esters, cream, and amber malts. Hints of nut. Balanced but simple. Built strangely for a so-called brown ale. No hemp comes through, nor does any alcohol or yeast. Enjoyable, but not subtle or complex.

Mf: Smooth and wet. A bit overcarbonated. A biteen too thick. Complements the flavours in a general sense, but certainly doesn't feel tailored specifically to them. Nothing unique or special here.

Dr: Drinkable but a bit boring. The hemp doesn't come through, and feels more like a gimmick than a flavour profile choice. For a brown ale, it's quite amber-esque. I wouldn't have it again.

Hemp brown

Snake river pint glass, growler from brewery

A: Pours like root beer, dark drown/caramel color and lighter shades of ruby on the edges.  This growler is a few days old, and carbonation isn't great.

S: Good, smells sweeter than I was expecting.  I'm definitely pulling banana and spices out on the nose, and a sweet caramel malt bill.  Some nuttiness underneath that.

T: Pretty standard fare, besides that tang of banana; sweetness, nuttiness, some earthy dryness but not a lot.  Definitely lots of sweet bread and toasted biscuit character here.

MF: Wishing for a bit more carbonation; it's a touch syrupy right now but not cloyingly so.  Feels medium bodied, and semi-dry.

O: Pretty good brown ale.  An easy drinker on the sweeter side, and this beer lacks that unpleasant aftertaste that drives me away from brown ales.

1/2 finger light brown head atop a brown, ruby-hued body.

brown sugar and wet cardboard and a little horse blanket tossed in there. meh, but keeping in mind it is a hemp ale i would look for toasted hemp aroma, which happens to be the aforementioned.

Moderate bitterness, sweet with a subdued brown sugar and buttered toast and some mineral flavors in the finish. hops are in back and finish with a chocolatey-earthy character.

very dry in the finish.

i could session this.

On tap at a beer festival poured into a sampler glass. From notes: Pours a dark, rich brown slight ruby color with an off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. light lacing. S: earthy malt aroma, some slight nutty characteristics. T: Nutty, oily, and bitter taste with malt background. Finish is a little bit more mellow, but the flavors wears down after a while. M: Light to medium body and rather oily and smooth, with little carbonation

Had on tap at Sunset Grill 3/26
Served in a tulip

A: This beer pours a thin, chestnut to dark brown color with a 1/3 inch of off white/khaki colored head. Head recedes immediately leaving very little spotting of lacing.

S: Nose is very muted. Caramel notes, a hint of nuttiness and that's about it.

T: Taste is slightly underwhelming. The flavors are light with more of a focus on the sweetness. Light caramel and toffee with a hint of nuttiness. The slightest hint of chocolate in the after finish, with a cloying sweetness.

M: Lighter side of medium body, low carbonation, thin and almost watery.

O: Goes down easily, not overly tasty, not filling, not much kick, I've certainly had better of the style. On one side, yes this goes down easy, but there isn't much too it. No real prominent flavors and a bit to thin for my liking. I'd opt for others of the style in the future.
