Into a pint.

A: Dark chocolate, with molasses-hued edges. A thin halo of a head. Some light to moderate oily lacing.

S: Dark chocolate, drip coffee, sweet, toasted, and burnt malts.

T: Chocolate and coffee coming through from the toasted malts. I catch an underlying apple skin dryness that's a wonderful compliment to the dark malts. Some light fresh hoppiness midway, that comes back around in the finish. Some dark cherries makes for a fine lingering aftertaste.

M: A fine porter presence. Not too stoutish, not too lagerish, just right as a tasty, brew with depth, that is also very drinkable.

A: The beer is very dark brown (near black) in color and poured with a finger high tan head. The head died down, leaving only a ring of bubbles on the surface around the edge of the glass.
S: There are aromas of roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of roasted malts and molasses along with hints of chocolate.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a high amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is very easy to drink for the style because it’s lighter bodied compared to other porters.

From a bomber.
Pours a very dark brown/black with mild ruby if held up to the light. Thick, light bubbled light brown head that lasts a long time, producing thick lacing to the last drop.
Smells like roasted coffee/malt with slight bitter chocolate. Not as pungent as I expected from a porter, but still looking forward to the taste that follows.
Tastes like bitter chocolate, roasted malt, black coffee, with a tinge of hops at the end. The more I drink of this, the more complex it becomes, the stronger the roast/chocolate.
Very tasty. Dry and bitter competes with a little sweetness that equates to well-balanced. Very drinkable. I'd have another for sure.

I thought I would love this beer. I've loved other selections from Firestone, and I'm a huge fan of porters. It pours a nice color and has a nice aroma. Kind of chocolaty, smokey aroma. The flavor up front is also nice--seems balanced with some nice chocolaty flavor. But, on the swallow and in the aftertaste, I'm getting a stranger vegetal flavor that is really bothering me. And now all I can do is taste that off flavor, along with a slight cloying sweetness that also bothers me. The body is a bit thin but this doesn't bother me as much as the flavor. Overall, not my favorite but I'm willing to try another bottle in case I got a bad bottle. Ah well.
