Chestnut beer with smallish but lingering head. Surprisingly translucent for the dark color.
Bourbon really pops off the glass. I smell dark fruits too. More comes out with warmth--vanilla and oak mainly.
Taste is pretty interesting. Sort of vinous--cherries and oak. Lots of barley and malt, very minor roast, some chocolate, decent vanilla, and a hop edge in the back. The taste is definitely better as it warms. The complexity comes out. Raisins and figs too. Really, as it warms, each sip is pretty different.
I can feel the sugar from this beer on my teeth, but I don't taste it. It's the right thickness. Given the taste, I'd expect thicker, but I think the beers are blended well. Leaves a long-lasting and dry finish.
