Pours a solid black with a big, tan head that lingers and laces.
Smells of spicy, light fruit, with some pine coming in. Has tropical fruit notes with an apricot and chinook-y spice.
Taste is light fruit up front that goes into a spice/rye middle with slight hints of roast and pepper before ending on a more stone fruit/grapefruit finish. The bitterness is almost perfectly balanced along with some slight astringency.
Medium body with medium carbonation works well--alcohol is expertly blended.
I really like how the spice in the hop and malt character is balanced by the fruit and pine characteristics of the hops. It is a fantastic brew that almost perfectly balances all elements. My favorite American Black Ale.
