Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass
A: Pours very dark brown bordering on opaque black. Just a tint of hazelnut around the edge when held up to the light. There is a tan head with good retention. Light, spotty lacing.
S: A fairly fruity aroma. Tropical fruits, pineapple and pear. This is backed up by some roasted malt scents.
T: Very interesting. A combination of fruity IPA, roasty black malt. Similar tropical fruits as the aroma with less emphasis on pear. Pine and floral hops add bitterness, especially in the finish. There are also notes of coffee and faint licorice and smoke. The rye is subtle and provides just a bit of spice.
M: Medium-thin and mild carbonation.
O: An interesting combination of flavors. Roasted malt, rye spice and IPA fruit. They sound sort of dissonant but come together nicely.
