Poured from a bomber into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Label reads, Bottled on: 12/27/13. Love the boxing bear on the cap.
A: Essentially black, red-tinged dark brown. 1 finger of tan head with ok retention. Moderate lacing.
S: Hops at the forefront with a surprisingly fruity essence. Grapefruit. Citrus. Faint pine. Lighter roasted malt notes and a little oak. Touch of booze.
T: Assertive hopping throughout with a nice bitterness and more pine notes than I was expecting. Some roasted malt notes develop with some bitter cacao and a trace of smoke. Dry finish. A bit of spice from the rye, although fairly subdued. Alcohol is light for the 8.3% ABV.
M: Moderate carbonation with a moderate body. Good vehicle. Smooth with a slightly velvety feel.
O: Well-executed and good drinking brew. Nice hop notes and particularly nice mouthfeel. I'd welcome some more rye presence, but tasty for sure.
