look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

A: Very dark brown in color. Appears black in the glass, but shows to be a slightly translucent dark brown when held to the light. Forms a moderate sized light tan colored head. Minimal lacing.

S: Predominantly roasted malts with some citrus, pine, and a slight metallic note.

T: Taste is full of roasted malts, some char, a slight bit of smoke. Hints of vanilla, citrus hops, and chocolate. Rye comes in fairly strong on the finish offering up a spicy component to the char-derived bitterness.

M: On the heavier side of medium with a moderate dark malt bitterness and a mild tannic astringency. Medium carbonation.

O: A decent Black Ale, but certainly not my favorite. Not sure I cared much for the interplay between the rye and the heavily roasted malts as each seemed to bring out the worst in the other.
