Pours jet black with hints of chocolate with fluffy and active two fingers of tan head that maintains itself really well, eventually settling at a healthy film. Very good retention; nice thick layers of lacing.

Sharp, dry, astringent hops right off the bat with roasty nut odors interspersed with pineapple and wet grass.

Rich, soft and well-balanced hop and malt interplay, but hops definitely dominate the flavor. Dirt, coffee grounds, underripe pineapple and slightly metallic rye flavors.

Soft and sharp with a creamy and consistent feel when you give it a quick swish. The beer is pretty dry- and quick-feeling on the whole with some prickly carbonation and some parching bitterness at the finish.

Fabulous beer!
This is a rare treat, indeed. An American beer that manages to be wholly well-balanced and in tune with itself while still maintaining a strong 'punch-you-in-the-face-with-flavor' feel.
The beer pours very nice and looks just like you would hope. The smell hints at what is to come but doesn't give it away. Finally, the taste manages to take it up a notch but the rye (I think) keeps it even and mellow. The palate is the same way, being both prickly and soft, sharp and creamy. The flavor and feel lingers, but diminishes just fast/well enough that it makes it very drinkable. Excellent.
Will try to have again; worth getting a hold of.
