Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a Teku glass. Bottled on 5/15/14 stamped on the label.

Pours an opaque black color, about 50-60 SRM with a khaki colored head that dissipates slowly. Visible lacing all around the glass as it is consumed with a constant ring around the glass just at the surface of the beer.

Smells of roasted malt, sweet caramel, rich hop oils, and grass.

Tastes sweet upon first sip with a nice chocolatey middle and a dry roasted malt finish with a pleasant bitterness from the hop content.

Very slick on the tongue with a slight prickliness that leaves the mouth yearning for another sip. Leaves the mouth feeling dry upon swallowing but definitely compliments the palate.

One of the best ABA styles I have had the pleasure of consuming. Quite drinkable despite the 8.3% abv and very easy on the palate. Would definitely seek this one out.

On tap at Khyber Pass Pub in Philadelphia. Served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: Black with a very thin tan head. A few strands and islands of lacing. 4

Smell: Hoppy - leafy, mango, papaya, tropical fruit. 4.25

Taste: Bitter hoppy from start to finish, with pine and pomolo grapefruit bitterness. Some roasted malt in the middle as a compliment / accent to all the hops. There is a bit of a spicy finish with this beer along with the grapefruit hop finish. 4

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation, very sticky on the teeth, smooth underneath. 3.75

Overall / Drinkability: A slow sipping beer. To my surprise I only wanted one of these and I was done. Perhaps too intense in bitterness. Very good, but I think it wrecked my palate for the evening. Went well enough with pulled pork BBQ, but wasn’t a perfect food match. Certainly a very good savoring beer, just not a beer that goes well with smoked BBQ. Perhaps better with something else, but I’m not sure what. 4

Pours black. Not super dark black. No head. Smells great. Malty and sweet. You can taste the alcohol but without the over the top bitterness. Glad I got a chance to try it.

Wife's Review:"It is ok."
