Pours out black with a thin, frothy milk head. Big PNW hops with somewhat clean, fruity US yeast in the nose with a hint of dark malts. Little booze in the smell as well. Taste is very hoppy. Lots of pine sap and citrus peel. Roast isn't that strong, but it's present. A bit too sweet for me. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. This is a tasty beer, but the sweetness makes it less than ideal.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle to a St. Bernardus chalice (from notes):

A - 4.50 - Dark brown almost black, more seethrough at the edges, nice light khaki head sticks around for a while with a decent lacing

S - 4.75 - Hoppy bitterness and citrusy notes are prevalent on the nose, rye and roasted malts balance it nicely

T - 4.75 - Hop bitterness, citrusy notes, more dark malts/coffee/espresso flavors, spicy

M - 4.50 - Medium mouthfeel, lots of bitterness, bitter on the finish, good carbonation

O - 4.50 - Great Black IPA, I've had it plenty of times and will have it again.
