Black in color with almost no head. Smell is malty and grassy hops. Thinner mouth feel with moderate carbonation. Taste is boozy, hoppy/piney bitterness with hints of caramel malt, rye spice and chocolate. Good overall but was hoping for more based on reviews and my own enjoyment of both union jack and double jack.

I poured this into a pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head.
Light lacing strings its way down the glass.
The smell had a blend of nice citrusy to roasty coffee and a light underscore of chocolate.
The taste was pretty much the same.
The mouthfeel was sharp and blended the smells onto my tongue in a slightly harsh way.
Overall, solid black ale, but Baranof's is better.

A: Black in color with plum highlights; brownish, creamy head
S: Pine, grapefruit, a bit of mildew/must/dank
M: Medium-light body; smooth; low carbonation
T: Starts with a peppery, woody note; moves to hops, pine, grapefruit in the middle along with something like whole grain bread crust; finishes with a coffee-like bitterness. Roasted-ness and mossy-ness throughout.
