On 2014-04-13 I did another tasting of the Pivo Hoppy Pils after a 16.75 mile hike in 78 degree sunny weather. OMG did this beer taste fantastic after the hike! Unlike last week, on a colder day, this less malty, more sophisticated pils completely hit the spot; so much so that I had another one to relax, sip, and update this review. The first one was so refreshing, it went down pretty quickly, but I can confirm that the aroma, flavors and feel of this second one warrant raising my overall rating. Wow. Today, this is a fantastic brew.
On 2014-04-07, I did a side-by-side with Troegs Sunshine Pils, Pilsner-Urquell and Firestone Walker's Pivo Hoppy Pils.
The Sunshine Pils has a more robust bread flavor than the Pivo Pils, which is dryer, a bit herbal and equally bitter. The Pilsner-Urquell is more like the Sunshine Pils but with even more of a bready taste, a bit less bitterness than the other two, and more of that famous mineral/sulfur presence. The Pivo Pils is the most refined but I miss the more forward bread flavor of the other two. For today's tasting, I'll put Sunshine Pils first, Pilsner Urquell second and Pivo Pils third but this is really just splitting hairs. They're all really good and suit me well.
A - Very clear yellow (lighter than Pilsner Urquell) with a 1.5-finger white head, lots of small bubbles, mild-moderate lace.
S - Bread, some yeast, flowery, lemon. Fresh and light.
T - White bread (much less bready than Pilsner Urquell or Troeg's Sunshine Pils). Lemon, light grass,, light herbal tea and white pepper. Finishes with a nice touch of bitterness. Nowhere near the bready flavors in the other two beers, or the mineral/sulphur taste in the Pilsner Urquell.
M - Light-medium body and medium carbonation. Crisp, clean.
O - A very fine brew. Subtle and balanced. Very refreshing.

Clear with a straw color. Good starting head for a bar pour. Leaves chunky spots of lace.
Nice, fresh noble hop aroma. A bit of spruce as well.
Clean taste with a slightly elevated hop level. There's a good, round pale malt base with just a touch of grain. The swallow is lightly peppery but gives a moderate aftertaste. Appropriate body with an above average carbonation.
