Bottle courtesy of Veachster. The bottle boasts a Chameleon reading a book called "Molecular Beer Theory" while resting his arm on a bag full of Grains of Paradise. Let's see just how educated this little critter is...

A - Pours a cloudy light gold in color, maybe not quite as "white" as most witbiers I've had in the past. The body is topped by a fragile thin white cap, not much in the way of lacing.

S - Not super aromatic, the majority of the odor consists of coriander with some citric zest, orange rind I'm thinking. That Belgian yeast you expect from this style also seems to be in attendance.

T & M - The aroma carries over nicely to the flavor. Your typical witbier flavors are present...Coriander, the Belgian yeast...the citrus actually seems to present itself more as lemon up front and orange rind toward the back. Light bodied and crisp.

D - This is another easy drinker from Chameleon. Full flavor and low ABV makes this something you could stock all Summer and drink while mowing the lawn. Worth a sixer if you can get your hands on it.

A: Pours a beautiful light gold and cloudy with HUGE slowly fading creamy white head and lots of bubbling.

Smell: Awesome: orangey without being excessively sweet or soda like. Light coriander notes with the wheat malt and yeast character showing through. Not overly strong but good character.

Taste: At first like the smell but even better. The orange citrus and bitterness is just strong enough to keep you wanting more with the low levels of spice and yeast filling out the great wheat and orange with a little lemon that keeps you thinking. The lemon is a bit overdone and quickly gets a little tiring.

Mouthfeel: Great, the sour/bitter orange just barely sits on the back of the tongue with a perfect amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: Could guzzle down a few more but the lemon gets a little tiring before the end of this bottle so I would probably go with something else.

Bottle from the brewery (Sprecher). Pours hazy and golden. Pleasant wheat aromas, with spice. Medium mouthfeel, tingling carbonation. Not a bad one, some cloves, perhaps some cinammon though the wheat base is so-so. I have to be in a special mood to enjoy most wheat beers, but this one was ok. Not super drinkable but worth a half pint.

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a Hoegaarden tumbler.
5.4% ABV

A - Witty pours intensely carbonated as bubbles fill the completely cloudy golden-yellow beer. I swirled the sediment into the glass on the tall pour, drizzling over the sudsy white head, which popped up then dropped to a thin layer slowly leaving clumpy rings of lace on the glass.

S - Abundantly aromatic, pungent spice additions fill the nostrils with a hefty helping of orange peel, candied lemon peel, and coriander seed. Light pale malt comes out in the background while hops are no where to be found, leaving the crisp and light nose with a pleasing spiciness!

T - Forward spiciness carries over into the flavor as well as strong orange peel and lemon oil citrus battle equally strong coriander though nothing is out of place or overwhelming. Light and crisp pale malt meets soft wheat for a nicely balanced finish.

M - Light-bodied and smooth going down from the wheat, Witty has a crisp carbonation bite to the finish with lingering flavor of spice and a pleasing dryness.

O - The American off-shoot of Sprecher, Witty is Chameleon's best offering, taking the citrus peel and coriander spice to a more elevated level than some others of the same style while remaining refreshing and balanced but definitely a summery beer.

12oz twist off longneck.
A) Pours with a big, white two finger head. Quite clear body that is gold in color. The head settles after a bit leaving a creamy lacing on top and at edge of the glass.
S) Wheaty. Coriander. Subtle orange peel.
T) Wheaty. Quite spicy, but in a pleasant way. Sweet orange peel. Coriander. Mellow notes of black pepper. Flavor profile stays solid from start to finish.
M) Light body. Creamy. Dry in the finish.
O) A delightful Witbier. I think it's a bit sweeter than the normal style but not in a detracting way. I'd have another one, if I didn't leave so far away!

The Witty: "White Wheat Ale Brewed with Spices". Received through the beer of the month club.

Drank straight out of the bottle.

Not a good example of the style. Finishes watery and a
bit bitter. Not as bad as some reports on here, but I wouldn't buy again.

Bottle courtesy of BeerFMAndy. Served in a Cantillon tulip.

Pours yields a clear light gold beer with a very thin white head and no retention. Settles quite quickly into a swirly cap and a really thin collar. No lacing. Nose brings some mild Belgian yeast character with a bit of orange zest and light coriander. Taste has a bit of orange zest but then takes the coriander way too far into the spicy realm. Not subtle at all. The excessive use of coriander really destroys the mouthfeel, which is otherwise light and well-carbonated. Drinkability is pretty low. This is way too much of a spice bomb.

12oz. bottle poured into an imperial pint. Bottled sometime in 2010. Thanks to BeerFMAndy for this one!

(A)- Pours a hazy golden orange color that produced a decent white head that stuck around for awhile before dissipating.

(S)- A creamy fruit profile of lemon, peach, apricot, and a touch of banana.

(T)- Same as the smell; a big fruity profile of lemon, apricot, and orange peel.

(M)- A good carbonation level. A big fruit profile. A little one dimensional, but the fruits are tasty and crisp.

(D)- Easily drinkable and enjoyable. Light and refreshing. Putting a 6pk away would be easy.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

That chameleon doesn't look like Oscar Wilde... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear brass topped by a half-finger of short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises light orange peel, light funky wheat, and what seems like an old yuzu rind. (Gotta love learning new fruits, amiright?) The taste brings in more of the same, funkiness and odd rindiness not only intact but emphasized. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a weak wit, not altogether bad, just not very good.

Thanks goes to BeerFMAndy. My man with the Chameleon hook up.

Poured into my pint glass the beer is a lightly cloudy golden yellow. A huge pillow like head rises to at least two fingers. Solid retention. After settling a small amount of lace is left behind.

The aroma is pleasantly fruity with hints of oranges, lemons and coriander. A solid wheat backbone with a touch of creamy vanilla.

The flavor is pretty much stock witbier. Light citrus character with a bit of coriander spice and a decent amount of wheat. A faint hint of banana come through in the finish.

Medium to light creamy body. Moderate carbonation.

Overall consider me pleased. This beer is a fairly spot on representation of the style. I might actually pick up a sixer of this over the summer.

This pours a mostly clear, golden amber color with only a minor head. The scent is mostly oranges with hints of wheat. The taste is kind of creamy, wheat, orange beer. Very drinkable but taste wise it’s very simple and fruity. It leaves a mild mandarin orange after taste that lingers around for a while.

A- White half-inch fluffy head. Dark orange beer. Very nice head retention and lacing for the style.

S- "Wheaty" smell. Slight citrus.

T- Sweet oranges, coriander. Slight alcohol taste, not off-putting though.

M- Creamy, smooth medium carbonation.

D/O- Pleasant surprise here. For a style I don't usually care too much for, I sure enjoyed this from Chameleon.
