This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

There were no hops in this version. Made with Brettanomyces, raisins, wormwood, sage, yarrow, and elderberries. It was aged in a Red Wine Barrel for 6 months then blended with some of an unbarreled batch. If Red Bull gives you wings, Mark of the Yeast gives you Pogo-sticks. 660 Bottles and 1 Keg.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep reddish brown. Nice khaki head. Very thick collar.

Smell - Red wine notes. Acidic. Spicy. Clove. Herbal and caramelly.

Taste - Acidity turns to a tang. Very spicy. Red wine again is strong. Boozy finish.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. A little boozy.

Overall - Well it's interesting. Not necessarily a good beer.

The pour is almost black in color with a tall tan head. Sour fruits on the nose. Raisin, cherry, and grape, maybe some plum. A hint of metal, mild roasted malt, lots of herbal and spice notes, particularly elderberry, mild bread. Flavor is leathery, dry, and tannic. Brett is noticeable, as is the herbal character. Light tartness, lot of raisins, some plum and green apple. Mild chocolate, oak, and vinegar. Very highly carbonated.

A: Near black. Big frothy beige head.

S: Strong vinous notes, bringing to mind grape and plum. Touch of smoke with peat, raisin, elderberry, and sage. Chocolate. A little meaty.

T: Dark chocolate dipped grape and plum. Earthy notes blend with a hint of smoke. Elderberry is pronounced. There's some raisin, sage, and leather. Touch of booze in the finish.

M: Upper medium body with fairly high carbonation.

Overall: An interesting and enjoyable beer. This reinforces the indisputable axiom that Gruit is a superior beverage, a fact that GruitHead84 always keeps in mind.

I got thos bottle a few months ago from a good beerbuddy T0rin0 (Robert) as a thank you. WEll Robert,,,thank you to you also.

Drank this bottle with my son in law during dinner and it was enjoyable to drink. Poured i a small Struise glass the beers starts pretty nice with a big lightbrown head. The head however disappears pretty fast. Fluid is then like cola. Coffee in the nose. Taste is not spectacular but the beers itzelf is good to drink.

Riedel tulip

A: Pours really dark brown. Highly carbonated. Thin layer of light tan. Faxes quickly. Some sticky lacing.

S: Getting that funk first and foremost. Smelling balsamic vinegar. Tartness. Some dark malt sweetness behind that.

T: First and foremost, prickly carbonation. Light bodied than I would have assumed. Tartness up front. Really getting nice sourness out of this beer. I really like it.

M: Big medium. Surprised.
