500ml growler, thanks to jefe73, split with Kelp.

A: Pours pitch black with about an inch of tight mocha brown head that lingers for a little while.

S: Chocolate fudge, coffee, a little vanilla, dark fruits, and hints of oak and bourbon in the background. Very inviting.

T: Tingle of alcohol and noticeable phenols, mostly pleasant dark fruits. Chocolate and coffee are fairly prevalent with vanilla and smooth bourbon on the middle of the palate. Dark fruits and oak on the finish with a touch of alcohol.

M: Close to full body, not nearly the thickest stout I've had, smooth and creamy. Finish is a touch on the boozy side.

O: A very good imperial stout.

So. Either this is infected, of just plain bad. I know this beer is supposed to be good, but I'm not getting it. It smelled a little tart, and it tasted fairly tart. Left like a tinny, chemical feel on my tongue. I'd try this again, hoping that its just a 1-time infection issue, but it's bad. Buyer beware with the recent batch.

Opened from a swing top growler with a nice pop! Shared by Duffman929, much thanks. Appearance is a thick and viscous pitch black with dark brown head. The nose is amazing, loaded with vanilla, cocoa, and coffee with notes of oak at the back. Very robust and roasty all the way through. The taste is nice and smooth with more chocolate and vanilla with the bourbon well integrated and some additional notes of char, smoke, and coconut. Mouthfeel is full bodied and smooth. Overall, digging this one more than RareR, perhaps this is due to my preference of bourbon over rum. Definitely worth a try... you really can taste the rare... I think.

Pours opaque brown with a dark tan thin head along with nice lacing that lasts decently throughout. Aromas of sweet malts, roasted nuts, licorice, oak, and light bourbon undertones. Brown sugar was immediately picked up in the flavors along with vanilla, dark fruits, figs, and woody bourbon chocolate, which later turns out to be acidity and off-putting. Medium to thick and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a solid single whiskey malt aged imperial stout, but the acid/metallic taste at the end was a major turnoff and really hurt the score.
